Hi! I'm also due in Jan (6th). I've not looked at it but think there's a board already for those due in Jan so you might find lots of people on there.

This is my second pregnancy so feel free to fire anything at me!!

moonlight1705 · 20/11/2018 09:38

I'm due the day after you nobabyno1 and also the first baby with no clue as to whether things are normal or not.

I'm having the extra growth scans which is proving to be reassuring. How are you doing with it all?

PiggyRae · 20/11/2018 09:47

I'm due 12th January. Just under 8 weeks to go and ready for baby to come now.

rainylake · 20/11/2018 11:02

Hi OP, we are due date buddies! Second baby for me

no1babyno1 · 20/11/2018 11:57

Hello everyone thank you for the tread. I will definitely be looking if there. I was just wondering. I do have question if you don't mind helping
This could just be me but I am so worried all the time. For example, if the baby hasn't kick in a little while or I'm like the baby kick but it's not as hard as usual.
I feel like I definitely have the first time mum/ pregnancy thing going on haha.

Also when should I start packing my hospital bag ? And do the hospital supply anything or do I have to bring everything with me.

Eg I plan to breast feed but just in case I can't do I need to bring a sterilised bottle and milk or will that be provided?

These may be very silly questions and you all may think you should know this haha.

Sorry for bombarding you all with questions xxxx

By now you should have established a pattern of movement. For example my baby moves generally morning and night and very little in between. That’s my pattern so normal for me. Anything outside your pattern or anything which concerns you just call triage and they will advise. Don’t feel like you can’t call you absolutely can.

I’m 34 weeks and have my bag packed already personal choice really but I’d have it packed by 37 weeks regardless.

I don’t know anyone that packs formula unless they intend on formula feeding from the start. You can pack a bottle if you wish and maybe a ready made formula pouch but most hospitals will provide it for a one off if you need it.

Jsh125 · 20/11/2018 14:33

Hi,

I agree with the poster above, by this stage you should definitely know what's 'normal' for you in terms of movement and if it varies then ring your maternity unit (or whatever the procedure is in your area) and they'll more than likely get you to come in to be monitored, they'd rather see you every day than ignore a concern. I went in a couple of times with my son as had an anterior placenta so never got really strong movement. Drink something cold or sweet like ice water or orange juice and lie on your left side for half an hour and you should feel movement. However, if in doubt just ring them, better to be safe than sorry. It's entirely normal to worry, it can be a really stressful time - especially for baby number 1 and the further down the line you get with pregnancy.

My bag isn't packed yet (you'd think we'd have learnt from the first time when my son arrived at 37 weeks) but we'll get sorted soon I'm sure!!

If you're planning to breastfeed there shouldn't be any need for you to bring any formula or bottles - hopefully you're only likely to be in for a short time anyway. My son had jaundice and was an awful feeder to start with and one night they magicked some formula from somewhere to feed him as he really just needed some milk!

If you do decide to breastfeed my only advice would be to not be surprised if it's not as easy as you expect, it is a natural thing but one that both you and the baby have to learn. The early days can be really tough but as long as your baby is fine and you're producing milk then stick with it, it will become the easiest and most convenient thing in the world once you're established with it. That said, don't ever let anyone pressure you into carrying on if it's not what you want.

no1babyno1 · 20/11/2018 18:22

I have been in before to the hospital about the movements and they told me I have an anterior placenta. I have told my midwife my baby doesn't have a pattern at all it changes every week which Is why I am always stressed haha. One day she will move just morning and night then the next time nothing in the morning but all night. My midwife just said I am an unlucky one where my baby may not have a pattern. As for packing my bag, I think I'm just so excited to meet her I want to pack as I feel like it will come quicker even though I know it won't ahha xxxx

I have an anterior placenta too so movements were difficult to track at first but I soon got used to it. Like PP said try a cold drink and lie on your side that should get baby moving.

I have SPD so wanted my bag packed early ish incase I couldn’t get out and about to get the extra things I needed to buy and then a colleague of mine went into labour at 34 weeks so gave me a shove to get it sorted just in case.
I have just popped the final bits in it tonight I just need a nursing bra and some snacks which can be done as and when but everything else for me and baby is all packed :)

rach2713 · 20/11/2018 19:32

Hi I'm due the 13th Jan with baby number 4 I have my bag packed and baby bag packed. My babies pattern is mainly at night but do feel during the day. She is lying on my right so feel lumps and bumps on my left which can hurt sometimes..

no1babyno1 · 21/11/2018 00:23

I just think some days I have a really really lazy baby and then other days she's kicking and moving non stop. I've ask my partner to help me pack the baby bag for the hospital. Like what outfits to bring and stuff he's like it's a bit early. Then there's me no we can do it now. Any suggestions on what to pack that I will actually use ? I know there is baby lists but I don't want to take or not take things that are necessary or not necessary

I have packed :
For me
2 nighties with buttons
1 pair pjs
Pack of 5 big knickers
Maternity pads
Breast pads
Wash bag with toothbrush/paste, simple body wash, deodorant, hairbrush bobbles and a flannel.
Thin cotton dressing gown (hospitals are hot)
Black slippers/ some people prefer flip flops
Baby wipes
Towel
Leggings/socks/comfy jumper for going home.

I just need to Asda nursing bra when I buy one and I’ll throw some drinks and snacks in a separate bag for both me and OH. Maybe my kindle too on the off chance in there forever.

Baby:
3 vests
3 babygrows
2 hats
2 blankets (I want one to come home before me smelling of baby for the dogs benefit)
Nappies
Water wipes
Muslin cloth
I’ll be adding a knitted cardigan once it’s finished.

no1babyno1 · 21/11/2018 07:38

Thank you this is very helpful. Maybe a stupid question but how many nappies/muslins would you bring. I've been around baby's all my life just never ones first borns. @harrypotterfan1604
I feel like they are little aliens when they are first born. Haha the youngest baby I've looked after and cared for are normally a month or more old. But I feel they change so much that i wouldn't know what to do when they are any younger. Is that silly ?

Hello,

I'm due 12th January with my first baby - a little boy!

I have also packed my bags - I just wanted to be organised ahead of Christmas and was advised by MAC to pack them. Just need to get nursing bras in a few weeks Smile

I am planning on breastfeeding, but on recommendation I have bought some premixed newborn bottles which will stay in the car and just be brought in if we need them. I doubt we will but I just wanted something as back up!

In terms of what the hospital will provide, it does differ by hospital. I know mine provides cotton wool and maternity pads, but that's it, so it's worth asking your midwife or at your antenatal classes.

Xx

harrypotterfan1604 · 21/11/2018 08:17

@no1babyno1 I’ve taken 2 Muslins and 12 nappies I think. My in laws live 10 mins away from hospital and will be spending time at my house with my dogs so they can always bring anything extra if we have to stay in. I feel a bit like the more I pack it’ll jinx it and I’ll end up having to stay in 😂 daft I know!
It’s my first baby so can’t say I’m an expert but you will without a doubt know what to do don’t worry about that. It will just come to you naturally. It’s all very exciting!

Zlucas · 21/11/2018 08:38

Hello,
I'm due on 11th Jan, 1st baby, 5th pregnancy. I've packed a baby for baby. Not done one for me yet. Feeling very scared and lonely at the moment.

Merrz · 21/11/2018 10:09

I'm due 18th January with first baby so 31+ 5 today. I know what you mean with the movements, baby tends to move more after i've just eaten or when i sit down but apart from that i wouldn't say there's much of a pattern, some days it seems to be very active and some days it's quieter Confused I told my midwife this last time but she didn't seem concerned.

I haven't packed my bag yet but planning to have everything ready by 36 weeks. I'm thinking of bringing 2 bags, one with labour/immediately after birth things then one in the car that DH can swap.
I'm thinking of putting babies things in small nappy sack type bags so it's easy to find, like an entire set of newborn clothes with a nappy etc in a small bag then a whole set of 0-3 month clothes so it's easy for DH to find babys 1st outfit after birth.

no1babyno1 · 23/11/2018 06:22

@littlebug19 i also need nursing bras but I'm gunna leave those until the last thing as I heard you're breast can getting really big in the last weeks and I don't want to buy the wrong size. Also yes I have recently written a list of question for my midwife which I'll ask on my next appointment which isn't that far away.

@harrypotterfan1604 i live 10 minutes from my hospital too so I was thinking of maybe making a back up bag for just in case the baby and I have to stay in. As my mum lives next door so she could just bring it up for me.

@Zlucas don't feel like you are on you're own. I am so worried all the time and scared. I feel like I pester my midwife or anyone who will listen with the tiniest of things. And if I had my way I'd been in the hospital 24/7 to just double / triple / whatever to check my baby is okay. Even though I know the baby is. I'm mean you can't as bad as that.

@Merrz yes my movements are not in a pattern at all and that's why I am a panickier all the time haha. When I told my midwife she wasn't really concerned either. She just explain it will just Be harder for me to tell. If something was different. Plus I have an anterior placenta which blocks so movement also. So I am always like is someone wrong or is the baby just resting/ moving but I just can't really feel. And I never want to leave it and think I'm over-reacting because that one time could be the time I need to go. I definitely have the first time mum panics.
Also with my hospital bag I think I will do a baby bag and then a me bag. It might not be practical but I just like the idea of the baby has a bag with all the bits and bobs the baby needs and then I have my own. Don't have a clue if that's right or not but that's how I would like to do it

Thank you to all the ladies that's have helped and given advice and how they are feeling too. I am feeling a lot better knowing I'm not the only one xxx

no1babyno1 · 24/11/2018 14:03
