Pushchair ignorance

Hi all

Expecting first baby in April, and with Black Friday offers thought I would get a pushchair this week, u til I realised I'm utterly ignorant about what's out there! Ideally don't want to spend more than £500, and had my eye on the Maxi Cosi Adorra, but have seen that this doesn't have a detachable carry cot. Any ideas for a clueless first time mum to be? Thank you!!

Look at the mothercare journey edit - reviews are amazing - and we love it! It’s well within your budget - not sure if there are any Black Friday deals on it though.

I'd really recommend buying a second hand buggy. but if you want to get a new one, then you need to think about how it will be used. e.g. are you in a city or in the country? will you need a buggy that is easy to travel with? etc.

I'd suggest going into a shop like john lewis to test them and ask all the questions. then you will know exactly what you want on black friday and can look for the best deals!

We have the mothercare journey too and have been really happy with it

My Joie chrome has been fab! Baby number two in its way in Feb and still good as new.

rach2713 · 19/11/2018 11:36

I would think about how long you are going to use the carry cot for I am pregnant with baby number 4 and have never used them as never really needed to I just used the car seat and normal seat and there is really good deal just now or even the wait until the January sales..

Thanks all that's so helpful - will definitely check out the Mothercare one!!

If you can get to a shop to roadtest a few, do it. Take a big bag of spuds with you and push and steer prams with it inside. Try taking carrycots off and on with the spuds inside. You'd be surprised how differently prams handle with weight in compared to without.
Yes, you will look like a twerp shoving spuds around Mothercare, but I promise you you'll get a better feel for the pram you're about to pay a large chunk of money for.

Definitely get it when it's on offer like you say, I bought my journey full price then a week later it had the change bag free usually £40 so I wish I had waited, just got carried away and bought it as soon as I tried it in the shop. I also wouldn't rule out a second hand pram, I need to buy a tandem soon as DS is 10 months and I'm pregnant and have been checking out selling sites

JW1226 · 19/11/2018 12:13

Mothercare orb has good reviews.
I'd also recommend a second hand buggy if your open to that.

Also there's a website
Preciouslittleones.com great deals!

I second the Joie Chrome, it's absolutely brilliant and I'll be using it again when DD2 arrives.

MissMoodyMoo · 19/11/2018 13:15

I got an isafe marvel travel system on eBay for £300! It's gorgeous!

ZackPizzazz · 19/11/2018 13:19

Buy secondhand. You'll get it for a third or less of the new price and many of them are still in superb condition. Plus it will sting a lot less if after a few weeks you find out you chose wrong.

The best buggy depends massively on how you intend to use it. As a Londoner I swear by a Babyzen and have never had a separate carrycot, but if yours is going to be used rurally that would not be great for you. You need to figure out your priorities (on-road? Fit in car? Light? Storage capacity?) and also factor in whether you're likely to need a double in a few years' time.

CrabbyPatty · 19/11/2018 13:27

You can buy the carry cot for the Adorra but this may take you over your budget bit not by much. There are a few pram plus car seat bundles for Black Friday that may come over your budget but save you money in the longrun. We got £400 off the Silver cross Waveat John Lewis because it was the display model. We were very lucky and had some help with the cost of the pram from MIL but before that I was looking at the Mothercare one as I saw someone out with it and I think it looked quite stylish like Silvercross.

shamofamockery · 19/11/2018 14:14

I'm not too fussed about the style but the Mothercare Journey is nice looking! We won't be using rurally, so actually reconsidering whether we need a carry cot attachment or not. I think I'm stuck between the Adorra and the Journey. Will keep my fingers crossed for Black Friday deals! Now.... who wants to choose me a car seat?!?

You can often get free maxicosis as part of black Friday deals on buggies. I did that and the next year our relatives did the same. For buggies you need to test them and check that you can fold it up as well as push it comfortably. Your needs will be quite personal. I didn’t need to use mine on public transport but needed something sturdy for walking that worked with a large height difference between me and my husband. Try and look at reviews where they have used the buggy in a similar way. I loved some online but hated them in store.
