HI everyone I’m currently 32 weeks pregnant and have found out I am a carrier of group strep b after a routine blood test! Ive been told I need to get intravenous antibiotics at least 4 hours before I give birth as it’s dangerous if baby catches it ! Im so worried I won’t get the antibiotics in time! Has anybody else had group strep b whilst pregnant please? Any advice greatly appreciated thankyou

Erm yes with my youngest and middle child. Wont tell you what happened as i dont want to worry you. Make sure they get anti biotics into you in time and when baby is here make sure they keep a very close eye on them and follow correct checks and procedures.

If they dont get antibiotics into you 4 hours before ensure they give baby antibiotics. Do not take no for an answer.

Ok. My daughter (middle child) was born super quick. I got to hospital 9 cm and almost ready to push. They stuck the iv for antibiotics in and she was born 20 minutes later. They didnt give her anything. She was crying and snorting from birth and got worse til at 6 weeks after numerous drs visits and begging someone to do something she was rushed into hospital and nearly died. Late onset group b strep. she had meningtis and pneumonia. Noone listened and it nearly cost her her life. Youngest i made sure i mentioned it throughout my pregnancy and again was ignored. Was induced at 37 weeks. No antibiotics for me or him. He was grunting at birth, they ignored me. 2 hours later on a check the midwife rushed him away as his resp rate was low. He ended up being put in a coma and blue lighted 2 hours away to a level 3 intensive care unit with sepsis and lung and respiratory issues. Was touch and go for a few days. 7 days in icu and 2 weeks in scbu. He now has very poor health on the whole, and has severe developmental delays.
Make sure they listen to you please. No one did to me and it nearly cost them both their lives .

With dc1 I was given the antibiotics in plenty of time, no problems. Showed up to hospital in labour with dc2 5 hours before I gave birth. I kept telling them I needed the antibiotics, they kept saying we had plenty of time, no where near delivery time yet. I was told it only needs to be administered 2 hours before birth. Kept asking they finally did it and dc2 was born 1 hour and 55 mins later. I was so cross with them not listening to me. Dc2 had to have cannula with antibiotics for 3 days (dose every 12 hours) on day 2 they checked his blood and it showed he had an infection. They took him away and took fluid from his spine to rule out spinal/brain infection. Luckily, he was fine. They increased his course of antibiotics to 5 days and they kept checking him, he was fine and we were allowed home on day 5.

Don't panic about group b strep, so many women never find out they have it and give birth. You're lucky it's been detected and they will have everything in place to make sure baby is fine. Just make sure you get to the hospital in plenty of time and really, really get on at them to give you your antibiotics ASAP. Good luck!

I am in the same boat and am worried if I don’t get there in time. It’s mt first so I’m sure it’ll be a long slog but still... So many posts on here with people not knowing if their labour has started & what if I think it’s just general symptoms or aches but I’m actually in labour?! A friend stayed at home way too long with her first as she was told that she’d know for sure when it would be time to go in but ended up being blue-lighted to hospital & gave birth 29 mins later! 😬 haha. I’m sure we’ll both be fine OP, good luck x

Melamine I’ve been told to go in as soon as I get any signs so I’m not gonna take any chances as this is my 4th and my second cane in 30 minutes from start to finish! Yes I’m sure you’re right and we will be be fine as the statistics show that hardly any babies actually catch it tovstart with! Best safe than sorry though hey? Good luck x
