Help! Had A Tattoo While Really Drunk 4 Weeks Pregnant

Hoping not to get judged here. I was on a girls holiday, after lots of vodka thought it would be a good idea to get a drunk tattoo. It was a very small one not that it matters. Was not trying to conceive so this little baby is a big surprise!! I was 3 weeks 6 days pregnant!!!! Tattoo healed fine and all routine blood tests came back ok. So far both scans have come back normal, but im still so worried I've done damage. Has anyone had a tattoo this early on? Has anyone done both. Please don't judge, I never would have done either pregnant and haven't done anything since!!!

Someone might be more knowledgable than me, I believe that tattoos while pregnant aren't allowed because of the risk of infection. If it's healed fine it won't have been infected and if your blood tests are clear I wouldn't worry. I think you'll be absolutely fine.

With regards to the vodka, you'll be fine especially with both scans coming back okay. So many people don't know they're pregnant in the early days and get drunk!

Lots of people don’t know they are pregnant at 3-4 weeks. People do things they would do when you’re not pg
You should be fine.

I am reasonably confident that tattoos are generally not advised because of risk of infection. Like most things, it's a small risk but not worth taking when pregnant as the damage could be so much greater as a result.
If there was going to be any impact from your tattoo you'd know already, don't worry.

I went on a hen do and a week's all inclusive holiday before I had any idea I was pregnant but have been assured that early I shouldn't have done any damage so try and stop worrying.

I cancelled a booked tattoo when I was pregnant and the artist said it’s obviously my choice but it’s only the risk of infection that’s the problem, it’s not going to cause any damage in itself so if all bloods are clear then baby won’t know it even happened!

ok i hope so! i just didn't know if the drinking & tattoo together would have made a different impact? but i guess you're right and i had no infection whatsoever. everything seems positive atm so i hope that's the case come the time. thanks for replies x

Definitely would have made no difference to each other, totally different reasons to be avoided!

I've had a tattoo whilst pregnant. Healed fine. Didn't cause any problems

Tadda · 19/11/2018 01:46

Do not worry OP! (I'd think many (many!)) a child has been conceived after a few glasses/bottles!! And tattoos do carry a risk of infection - pregnant or not - only reason they advise against anything like that (same as listeria risk of unpasturied milk etc, theres always going to be a massive list of 'dont do while pregnant' precautionary ) yours has healed- sounds ok to me-

Anything like that your worries about, mention to midwife at your booking in appointment (id say about the tattoo, don't worry about the night out!)- they'll do a full blood check and mot on you anyway so try not to worry xx

Tattoos are only a risk of infection. If it's healed OK and blood tests (Hep B and C are the main risks although you may also have been vaccinated against B) have come back clear then you're fine. The risk of infection of Hep is minimal. I agree I'd mention the tattoo but don't worry about it or worry about the alcohol. Baby isn't actually joined to you until weeks 10-14.
