I'm 4 weeks pregnant and the thought of not having a hot bath for a long time is really getting to me!!

They are my favourite!!!

Anyone else missing things they cannot have? Smile

The risk with baths is that pregnancy lowers blood pressure. Hot baths also lower blood pressure and the two combined make it more likely that you could faint.

There is no risk to the baby.

Personally I just carried on as normal but was extra cautious when getting out.

I like my gathscat 42 degrees!

I've been wondering this too, OP. The advice is you can't go in a hot tub, sauna or steam room. Hot tubs are generally cooler than baths, so presumably the advice would still stand for a bath above certain temperatures.

I avoided baths before 12 weeks because I like them really hot and was worried about the whole neural tube thing but that may have just been me being a bit paranoid.

I’ve had loads in the rest of my pregnancy though - I just make sure I keep well hydrated so I don’t feel faint.

hoping2018 · 19/11/2018 07:22

My understanding wa there is some weak evidence for very hot baths (and therefore raising you core temp) MIGHT be linked with some birth defects in early pregnancy so baths in first trimester should be a reasonable temperature.

Mine is an ivf pregnancy so I may just be ultra paranoid/cautious but I've taken the meat thermometer from our kitchen and been sticking it in the bath and making sure it doesn't go about basal body temp! Still hot but not my normal scorching - has meant a lot more top ups of the bath but still having them and enjoying them!

I have a jacuzzi bath, at home so would I be able to use the jets as long as the temp isn't overly hot? Thank you.

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 19/11/2018 08:51

Yes, the jets are fine. The reason they say to avoid actual jacuzzis is because they maintain a high temperature, so you’re more likely to overheat. Enjoy!

frazzyandfrumpled You've made my day!!

emwithme · 19/11/2018 09:15

I avoided baths in the first trimester because I like them monkey hot and had a couple of almost faints (I tried having a cooler bath but it wasn't the same so just stuck to showers).

Now 38 weeks and having LOTS of baths but only when DH is home in case I need winching out assistance to get out.

Haha, I’m 31 weeks and been leaving the bathroom door unlocked in case I need help Blush

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 19/11/2018 09:22

JustMe18 Grin I aim to please!

Ladies the winching out thing is real 🙈

Marmite27 · 19/11/2018 09:23

1st DC I lowered the temperature of my baths. 2nd DC so much was going wrong I thought fuck it and stil had them scalding.

She’s 7 months old and perfectly healthy, despite the hot baths.

Ohyesiam · 19/11/2018 09:23

I am a bath hater, but wanted and had a bath every night when pregnant with my son .

aetw · 19/11/2018 09:33

37 degrees is the suggested temp

harrypotterfan1604 · 19/11/2018 09:38

I’ve relied heavily on baths for back pain during my pregnancy. I love a really hot bath and honestly haven’t lowered the temp very much at all. If I feel I’m too hot I just sit on the side for a few mins and get back in.
I even went in a hot tub daily for 4 days while on holiday. Again I just went in did ten mins in then sat on the side with just feet in for ten mins then back in. I’m not reccome dong you do that because they do say you shouldn’t but both me and baby are fine. I’ve suffered with spd and back pain so the bath and the hot tub gave me so much relief

Loyaultemelie · 19/11/2018 09:42

I was very high risk and was actually encouraged by both midwives and consultant to continue with my lovely daily baths. By the end with dd2 (4th pregnancy) I was on about 3 a day
