i don;t know ! i would have thought it very unlikely, as if the egg was unfertilised it would not embed in the uterus.....so would not be waiting in the womb to be fertilised

but that is a really interesting question and i will wait to see if anyone knows!!

I think so, as people have had late conceptions (compared to their ovulations) and have ended up with implantation much lower down than usual (which also carries its own problems).

An egg only lasts 24-36 hours and it takes a couple of days to roll down the tube, so I would have thought the answer was no. Whilst pregnant with ds1 I read a book about Patrick Steptoe who 'invented' test tube babies. He said that they kept fertilising eggs then putting them in the wombs straight away but no pregnancy occured. Then they had a flash of inspiration and realised that in nature, an egg has actually been fertilised and started multiplying the number of cells, a couple of days before it gets to the womb. So they then mixed egg and sperm, 'left it' for a few days THEN put in the womb and hey presto, Louise Brown and all the other test tube babies.
Does that help? Or is it too technical? Very very interesting book though, even though we didn't need ivf.

Thank you. I wondered because I thought I could have been pg but test was negative and AF is still late by 3/4days. Then I thought I might not have conceived at ovulation but later when the egg had been in my womb and that that is why the test is still neg.

Mu A/F is sometimes late if I have been unwell or very stressed. But sometimes a test can be neg, if you are in the very early stages - you could test again in a few days if still no A/F?
