Moving at week 8

Hello everyone🙂I’m 5 weeks pregnant now and I self referred myself to a midwife service in my current location(north west)and I got an appointment on dec 5 (through letter). My husband and I are moving to the south west (Wiltshire) on dec 8 (he got a new job!). I don’t know if I should see the midwife here or wait until after we move and register myself in Wiltshire. I’m really confused because it’s my first pregnancy and I’m new to the UK. Also, first appointment at 8 weeks feels a little late to me😖I’m really nervous. If I see my midwife here and got my blood tests etc done, will they be able to forward my results to my new midwife or is it too much trouble? Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated 🙏

As far as I know, UK midwives won’t see you before 8 weeks anyway and unless you have any existing health issues there’s unlikely to be blood (or any other kind of tests) to be honest. The 8-week (ish) appointment is called a ‘booking in’ and it’s basically a long form filling exercise all about your health/set up etc.
So in light of that I’d wait until you’ve moved and do it all in your new locale. Otherwise it’ll be a massive inconvenience for you (and them) for not very much gain Smile

In the meantime, congratulations on the baby and the impending move!!

Yes if you go to the appointment they will probably cancel you if they find out you are moving and if it goes ahead you will have to repeat the booking in process in your new area. I would try to self refer to your new area. I don't know if you can until you have a GP and address though. The midwife generally doesn't see you before about 8-11 weeks.

Do you know which GP practice you'll be registering with at the new house? Might be worth calling them up and explaining the situation and they can tell you the procedure in Wiltshire.

My booking in appointment as at almost 10 weeks (apparent anywhere in 8-10 week range is fine where I live) so moving at 8 weeks should still be fine if you can get an appointment quickly. You might be able to do some of the forms in advance to register.

When I found out I was pregnant I had to register with a gp in my new area. I’d moved over a year earlier but never changed my gp. I phoned them explained I was pregnant and they said fill in the form and they booked me a midwife appointment really quickly.
It would be best to start your care at your new gp it makes much more sense

Thank you. I shall be registering at my new gp after I get my new address.

Absolutely no point booking in at your current address. Booking in appointments are usually somewhere between 8-12 weeks.

It's unlikely any results would be shared with your new midwife team, when I moved mid pregnancy they didn't accept any previous results and did booking bloods etc all again.
