Eating less than normal?

Hi ladies

I’m 15 weeks now and my nausea and lack of appetite continues. I’m eating less than I normally would and I don’t feel hungry like I used to pre-pregnancy. I do eat about 4-5 times a day but usually very small portions. Today I had a fried egg with a small toast around 11. A vege burger (without bun) around 4 and I’ve just had a small toast with a quarter bowl of vegetable soup. Gone off sugar which is something I would have daily but I guess that’s a good thing. I’m taking vitamins. Just worried about what impact this could have on the baby. Should I force myself to eat more? I just feel so full and nauseous after I eat. I thought my appetite would be back around week 12. Did anyone else go through the same?

Little and often is the key. Sounds like you’re listening to your body and eating nutritious food, can’t go wrong

Hi @Landladymews

Congrats on your pregnancy! Smile I’m exactly the same, I’m eating a little more however if I eat more I’m sick straight away! I was also shocked at how my appetite is dwindling - I love food normally! I’m definately one of the first people at the buffet. Had some vegetable soup for lunch and because I had a few spoonfuls more (I was full half way through it) within 2 minutes I was straight to the bathroom and was sick.

I wouldn’t worry (I know its easy to) but I’ve had sickness since week 6 (I’m 18 weeks now) and for around 2 months I was sick atleast 3 times per day. Any thing I ate I was sick. I ended up loosing weight but baby takes all the goodness from your reserves anyway. Some people have HG which results in them barely eating anything and still having healthy babies.

I tend to go with my cravings which is 100% plain egg fried rice and curry sauce- luckily for me I’ve always been healthy (usually!) and a Chinese takeaway is round the corner 🙄 although I obviously try and limit this, but if you have any ‘cravings’ try to work with them :) x

I'm 16+4 and exactly the same. Normally I'm a bit of a piggy and have a big appetite but I can barely manage to eat a whole sandwich at the moment. I'm finding soup is a total life saver! Nutritious and not as filling so I can eat more :)

Thank you everyone! This is really reassuring. I was worrying that it could be effecting the baby but I just can’t face eating more food. Whenever I feel hungry I make sure I eat something and I am having carby stuff like bread and potatoes because it seems to be tolerable. Have totally gone off meat!

I'm much the same. Meat makes me feel ill, fish isn't much better. I'm eating slightly more than I did in the first trimester, but not as I was before, so at 19 and 4, I still weigh just under what I did when I conceived. I'll chat to my midwife about it at my next appointment but I'm not too worried yet. (Although starting to wonder if I should be...) Everything I've read says the baby will take what it needs from you.

Don't worry! I've been like this throughout and at 32 weeks weigh the same as before I concieved (possibly a couple of kg less). My nausea began to subside at about 20 weeks and I felt hungry for the first time in months earlier this week which was super exciting as I used to love food. Your baby will take what it needs first, I have a few friends who went through the same thing and all have had healthy babies. If you were underweight (or close) to begin with then maybe raise it with your midwife but if not then I don't think it's that uncommon.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!
