Back cramps at 11 weeks, what shall I do

I have had cramping in the left hand side of my back the past 3 days now, getting more intense as the days pass, I have taken a urine sample to the doctors and they have ruled out a Uti as nothing is showing ( they never do when I have a uti) I'm only 11 weeks pregnant with my first and it's making me really worried, called my midwife who said if it gets worse go back to the gp cause you've been today and they're not concerned, I called 111 who again told me to contact my gp, contacted gp again and they said to go to the walk in centre, I am more than happy to do this but I can't see what the walk in centre will do more than the gp, I just feel completely palmed off and it's stressing me out that something is wrong with baby
I literally don't know what to do next, should I get a fetal doppler to for reassurance but then if I can't find a heartbeat I will be even more worried, pay to go and have a private scan?
I feel so helpless

Hi, sorry you're getting nowhere with docs/111 etc. At 11 weeks I was getting cramps and twinges (although in my front, not back), in fact it started at 6weeks and hasn't really stopped. I can't really give you any advice but to go to the walk-in clinic for reassurance and that my googling reassured me that cramping is normal in early pregnancy, although it's unnerving! Good luck x

@lelrx I’m 11+4 today and a couple of weeks ago I was freaking out about some back pain i was having. It lasted for around 3/4 days and was quite painful at times!

I rang the midwives who gave me the hospital advice line number which I didn’t ring in the end as it was half term and there was no way I was going to be able to get to a hospital 40 miles away with OH at work and two children off school. Anyway, it settled. I haven had any scans at all with this pregnancy but everything seems to be looking good and going well for now!

I wouldn’t buy a Doppler, I can be really hard to pick up a heartbeat at this early stage. I remember being 16 weeks, reasonably slim and the midwife taking a good 10 minutes to find DD’s heartbeat with a medical grade machine. All it will do is make you worry more if you can find the heartbeat!

Thought I’d attach this, it may be reassuring for you. From the NHS website

Thank you for your advice ladies! It's just so rubbish not knowing what to expect when it's your first, I just feel like there's something wrong I just want to know baby is okay, I have my 12 week scan on Tuesday I just feel like it's taking forever to come around x

Hi @lelrx

Your GP surgery sounds like mine I only get anywhere when I’m pushy. I’ve just signed up to that online booking service via system 1 (if your surgery offers this) you can log on early morning and book an appointment with your GP for that day or later in the week. Worth looking into if your surgery does this.

I had this exact pain last week, right under my rib and down my side (I’m 18 weeks) I didn’t have a UTI and they swabbed me which was fine too. I’ve come to find out it was my bra which was too tight (despite me buying new ones) last Thursday I was in agony and was off work Friday- I didn’t wear a bra all weekend and it’s been absolutely fine. I’m wearing a different one this week for work and again it’s disappeared.

As PP says cramping is normal especially early pregnancy.. I had baths to try and soothe the pain along with hot water bottles, hope you feel better soon x

Thank you! I don't think my surgery offers this 😫 also I have been wearing a Calvin klein sports bra so there's no pressure, I think I may pay for a private scan just to ease my mind xx

You need to calm down.

You are growing a whole brand new human being single handedly with your body, unsurprisingly it's uncomfortable at times.

I assume you haven't had any bleeding? Aches and pains are really normal at this stage as your uterus is stretching and the placenta is growing.

You won't be able to hear the heartbeat at this stage and Dopplers are considered unwise in untrained hands generally.

No one is palming you off, it's just there's isn't anything to indicate anything else needs to done at this stage.

Your 12 week scan can't be far off?

Iswallowtoothpaste · 14/11/2018 14:36

@lelrx it’s my 12 week scan on Tuesday too. I really would just wait until then! It’s not long now.

And I say this after 2 consequtive M/C. Please try to relax, I know it’s so difficult at this stage. Xxx

Thank you @iswallowtoothpaste
Ah no im sorry to hear that, its just our maternal instinct kicking in I guess, trying to protect baby, you're right I do need to stop stressing it's not going to make anything better, hope all goes well Tuesday, congratulations xx

I'm convinced it's a uti @pastabest, but because they're saying it's not showing I'm worried that I'm wrong now even though my utis never tend to show up when tested, they end up making me really poorly in the end and I don't want anything affecting baby, I just feel so protective and worried that it could cause harm 😢
