Clothes for newborn

I'm trying to be as prepared as possible being a first time mum.

I've got a variety of babygrows in newborn and 0-3 months. 2 snowsuits, hats, socks and mittens.

Do I need anything else clothes wise?

Vests and cardigans

As above, vests and 2 cardies. Regardless of the time of year it’s a good rule of thumb for babies to wear one more layer than we would.

It's very possible that (if full term) the baby will only get about 3 weeks of wear (maximum) out of the newborn stuff so I think you're good. Personally I would buy about 10 vests (to allow for plenty of changes without having to wash every day) in 0-3 months and roll the cuffs up to begin with. Also, once the baby comes, people will probably give you stuff. So much stuff. And you'll find out what you actually need/use. Lots of baby clothes just never get worn. it's easy enough to pick up more bits as you go along. My 1st one needed lots of changes (very dribbly/pukey/explosive poop baby) his brother was much less messy could often wear the same suit all day.

Oh, and, if baby has a vest and a babygrow and socks on (plus hat & snowsuit for outdoors) I would probably have a blanket handy to snuggle them in instead of a cardigan while they're newborn size because multiple tiny sleeves are very fiddly...

Baby vests as in short sleeve babygrows with no legs in? To wear under babygrows?

Just in case you're not already aware, snowsuits shouldn't be worn in car seats. Just use blankets, they're easier to add/remove from baby as the temp changes

Don’t bother getting vests in newborn or up to 1 month, go straight to 0-3 months, as even if they’re slightly baggy they’ll be covered by the babygrow.

When are you due? I found cardigans very handy as well.

Socks are a bit of a faff- they kept pinging off and they’re so tiny they kept going missing.

Have you got at least 1 cotton hat?

Yes. But personally I would get long sleeved ones for this time of year, short sleeved for summer (possibly without a babygrow or with trackie bottoms if it's warm). They're called bodies were I am.

Also, a pile of white muslin cloth nappies pre-washed with softener for wiping puke/breast feeding disguise/ lying baby down on etc etc .. pretty much permanently had one draped over my shoulder.. never went anywhere without one for the first 2 or 3 months.

Definitely vests, I’d get long sleeved for a winter baby too.
I bought snow suits for my November baby but we didn’t really use them (can’t wear them in the car, a faff if you’re going to be going from outside to inside multiple times as you have to keep taking them off and putting them back on) so haven’t bothered with this one (due in December). Intending to just layer with blankets instead.
