Should I phone?

Hi all,
I’m 21+4 and have an anterior placenta. Up until around two weeks ago I’d only had faint movements, then suddenly could feel baby wriggling very frequently particularly in the evenings. It wasn’t really a ‘kick’ as such, just fluttering and faint popping sensations but sometimes enough to visibly see my stomach move.
Well I now haven’t felt movement since Thursday evening, it’s now Monday. I’ve had the odd twinge that I thought could be movement but never progressed so could just have been gas. I have had gaps before of a few days where I’ve felt very little and then it’d suddenly start again.
I know movements aren’t meant to be much of a worry before 24 weeks and they can be infrequent especially with an anterior placenta, but it’s really worrying me that I could feel baby wriggling loads and now hardly anything.
Should I phone the community midwife? I haven’t had to phone yet as I’ve had a trouble free pregnancy so far, so I don’t want to waste anyone’s time. This is my first pregnancy.

Any advice appreciated x

Please phone them if you are worried you will never be wasting their time.

If you are unsure and unhappy about your baby it's never a waste of time to give them a ring.
I'm sure they'd rather you phoned. It's up to you but if it was me I'd phone them, it's what they're there for!

Call them ASAP they'll be happy to reassure you.

Just call them. I had an anterior placenta with my twin pregnancy. I went for monitoring too many times to count due to reduced movements. No one batted an eyelid

custardcream5 · 12/11/2018 12:57

Call your hospitals maternity triage & explain, they may not hook you up to a monitor but will want to check baby's heart rate, I'm 23 weeks now & felt like you at 21 weeks and a midwife had a listen to baby, it's worth the reassurance and they'll want to see you...
I'm sure the baby is having a rest and will prob start moving again soon but please go...

With my first pregnancy I had an anterior placenta and they were more than happy to check my reduced movements at 21 weeks xx

Thanks everyone. Literally after I wrote that message I’m sure I felt a couple of little kicks but nothing since, so again I don’t know whether it’s just gas bubbles! I’ve been on the go quite a lot lately so going to have an early night tonight and a bath and if still nothing then I’m phoning first thing in the morning. Thanks for your advice. Xx

It’s probably just that the baby has moved into a position where it’s harder to feel movements. This is quite common around this stage as they are still quite small. However it’s better to call and ask the midwife rather than worry. They won’t put you on a monitor at this stage but they can listen in to the heartbeat and check everything sounds ok.

Is that when the placenta is at the front? I've got the same issues. I'm 32+5wks and even now I don't always feel a lot of movements, it's a worry yes! I've been down the the clinic on quite a few occasions now for monitoring and I've got to say the reassurance that everything is ok is priceless! I find that every time they hook me up to the machine baby goes wild which leaves me feeling like an utter fraud, haha! The midwives say this is always the way but they'd rather that than something be wrong which is so true!!!

Just ring them, you will sleep easier tonight knowing you've spoke to someone, I think I rang around your stage as well and they said to just keep an eye on things as they couldn't start monitoring until a certain stage, but every department is different, a phone call isn't going to take you long is it, few mins! All the best xx

I had this, mostly feel baby kick very low but if he is quiet I guess he is kicking up higher as my placenta is at the front but up higher now.

Experienced proper kicks mid of my tummy this weekend so he is obviously getting stronger to kick the placenta! (25+5)

I find if I listen to music (mostly I'm a dreamer!) and lay in my left and concentrate I'll feel it more.
