Really scared- Being induced tomorrow (37 weeks)

I'm 37 weeks with my first baby. Drs are concerned about levels of protein in my urine so want to induce me tomorrow. I feel terrified somethings going to go wrong, either with me or baby. I know inductions can be very long and drawn out and sometimes end up in emergency c sections. Does anyone have any advice? X

No useful advice, sorry, but just wanted to let you know someone was here offering a handhold. Wishing you all the luck in the world for tomorrow - you can do this Thanks

I had an amazing induction at 39 weeks. 2.30pm received pessary, waters broke naturally at 11pm and baby born at 3.30am. Good luck, you'll do great. However your baby makes an appearance you will both be happy and safe in the end. That's all that matters. I'll be thinking of you!

I was induced!

My top tip is book the epidural!!!

You'll be fine.

The more relaxed you are the quicker it will be.

Can you download Marie Mongon Hypnobirthing book and read it this evening?

It will massively help you keep calm and collected.

Just had an induction at 38 weeks. I didn't have the pessary, just the gel, you get monitored a lot before any gel/ pessary and have to get satisfactory ctgs without contractions for them to do the gel at all. Gel/pessary are to get the cervix to a position where they can break waters to trigger labour proper. Then it's like normal labour.

My main tips are be honest about what you're feeling, ask for a ctg if you have any doubts about movements and bring lots of things to kill time - I brought cross stitch and crochet plus books, films, tablet.

There's lots of time waiting - 6 hrs between monitoring unless something happens.

EMCS not a disaster either.. You get a lot more monitoring in an induction than a "normal" birth!

Oops, forgot the syntotocin which is after water breaking so on delivery ward as I didn't get that far. 2nd dose of gel triggered labour which was actually very similar to my first (spontaneous labour) once it got going.

I had a midwife appointment and was told I had pre eclampsia and ended up being induced at 38 weeks at 6pm, i was nervous as I thought the same that it would take ages and hurt more because of all the stuff you hear but in all honesty it was fine. My waters broke naturally and all I had was
2 pills for pain killers at 2am in the morning and my DD arrived at 5am naturally...
My advice would be relax and try get sleep during the time you are waiting and at the end of the day you are in the best place for help.

Let us know how you get on

Thanks ladies for the positive stories. I have all sorts running through my mind, like is Baby ready, are his lungs ready? Etc

I also worry about fast and hard contractions having a strain on me and causing baby distress. I suppose it's normal to feel like this. Will defo have a look at the hypnobirthing book and take some stuff to keep me occupied!

Will keep post updated x

I was induced at 37+6, baby born 38 dead on, no complications, mild contractions for 24 hours every ten minutes, then they decided to just break my waters, really quick after that, and I only have had and air throughout(though not for pushing as I was on the toilet at that point!), lovely labour and I would do it again easy if I knew they could all be like that.

snoopy18 · 11/11/2018 19:42

Good luck for tomorrow

Merrydoula · 11/11/2018 21:07

@BrokenMachine wow that's amazing, did they give you any steroids for his lungs? I know they say babies are full term at 37 weeks but this is something I'm worried about x

Just to add as well, my youngest was born at 36 weeks on the dot, and didn't have time for the steroids they gave me to take effect before he was born. He didn't need any time in NICU and was ready to go home as if he'd been born at 40 weeks with no issues at all. Hope that makes you feel a little better! Good luck!

Merrydoula · 12/11/2018 08:55

@octoberfarm That's really reassuring to hear! Glad he was safe and sound! I'm currently writing a few things in both plan before I go tonight, will keep you guys updated! Eeek very nervous!

My advice would be to take something to entertain yourself with because the first part can take quite a while before things get going. And be open minded about having an epidural because induced labours can be a bit more tricky to cope with. Hope it goes well and try to get some sleep tonight x

octoberfarm · 13/11/2018 23:51

How's it going, @Merrydoula? Hope by now you have your LO in your arms and that you're both doing well Smile

Merrydoula · 15/11/2018 18:30

Hi guys, had my baby this morning at 11.30 weighing 6lbs 3oz!

Was a very tipsy turvy labour but just when me and the drs has resigned ourselves to the idea of a c section after 3 longs days of induction methods, they checked me and I was fully dilated! I pushed for 40 mins and baby cake, it is possible after all!!! Thank you so much for all your support and advice x

That's a brilliant outcome and a good weight for 37 weeks. Well done!

octoberfarm · 15/11/2018 21:51

Yay, huge congratulations! And what a great weight! Enjoy the newborn snuggles Smile

SecretM · 16/11/2018 13:34

Congrats - glad it went well
