Not feeling much movement at all at 23 weeks

Evening all,

I'm currently 23 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I discovered at my 20 week scan that I have an anterior placenta (all was well thankfully) which I know can cushion movements.

However, I have felt very little in the way of movement. A few faint flutters quite low down, but I've been quite constipated and gassy with this pregnancy (lovely I know), so it's hard to distinguish between gas and baby flutters. I have been feeling flutters every day for the past few days, but very few and far between (maybe 3 or 4 little movements throughout the day, mostly in the evenings when I'm sitting and relaxing). But definitely no kicks or strong movements.

I'm starting to get a little worried now Sad I've had losses before (though these were early on). When did you start feeling movements with an anterior placenta?

Thanks Smile

It’s normal. I started feeling regular movements about 26 weeks. I had reduced movements about 28 and was told not to worry it’s too early to feel consistent movement. The flutters sounds like the baby! It’s only little and weak, it’ll struggle to kick hard enough to get through the placenta for a while x

I didn’t have an anterior placenta and I felt proper movement around 23 weeks. I believe that’s normal for a first

NumNums96 · 10/11/2018 20:45

Thanks both! I have been reading posts from women at the same stage as me who have allegedly been feeling their babies thrashing away like kickboxers, and here I am thinking 'not me!' Grin

AP is bad luck and you do feel a bit like you miss out. You’ll be getting it all soon!

Cornishmumofone · 10/11/2018 21:01

I had an anterior placenta and never felt more than a vague flutter.

Bump!

Just to reassure you, I have twins & a posterior placenta & it was easily 23/24 before I felt obvious movement, therefore I don't think I'd be worried with a singleton & anterior at this stage. I'm guessing you've had scans & all is well? xx

JudasPrudy · 11/11/2018 08:31

I think I was 24 weeks and my placenta was wherever it's usually at!

harrypotterfan1604 · 11/11/2018 08:41

I have an anterior placenta too and didn’t start to feel full on movements until maybe 26 weeks. Flutters from around 23. I’m now 32 weeks and have a baby that’s constantly kicking me and looks like it’s
Trying to escape via my belly button 😂

NumNums96 · 11/11/2018 18:41

Thanks all. All was fine at my 20 week scan (although I noticed she didn't move very much...).

Mine barely moved at the scan. Often they’re asleep.

MonkeyToucher · 12/11/2018 09:31

I have an anterior placenta too

I was feeling flutters from about 20 weeks and now at 24 weeks feeling lots of proper kicks. Almost to the point when hubby can feel them too!

This week at my midwife appointment when she was applying the Doppler she keeps saying she was sending the movements and asked whether I could feel them - id say I could feel about half. So just because you aren’t feeling them doesn’t mean they aren’t happening... could you maybe get your midwife to check at the next appt?

BeardofZeus · 12/11/2018 09:37

I had an AP, didn’t feel nowt but a flutter until 21/22 weeks, started to feel the motions early 3rd trimester, couldn’t miss the movements by middle 3rd!!

Sometimes it helps to focus for a while on your tummy and what you can/can’t feel as opposed to the end of the day “did I feel anything yet?” memory raking .. and this early on with an AP, you might not feel much! However talking to friends with a PP.. you’re going to get more sleep so swings and roundabouts! I know i was certainly never woken by movement Smile

Sorry to jump on your post? I’m 24 weeks, feeling movements but at what stage does the baby get a routine and when should you monitor movement?!

MonkeyToucher · 19/11/2018 13:29

My midwife told me to start taking a mental note of the pattern from 24 weeks. Just checked the Kicks Count leaflet thingy and you should notice the amount of movements increasing from 24 up to 32 weeks so if I noticed a reduction after 24 weeks I would call triage!

NumNums96 · 19/11/2018 14:41

I was told they start to develop a pattern at around 24 weeks but to not count the kicks until 28 weeks as before then baby's movements are still fairly erratic.

Just and update for everyone: I'm now 24+2 and, although I'm still not feeling a HUGE amount, I'm definitely feeling flutters and little pops now. I get them a lot after I've eaten and in the evenings, otherwise she's still fairly quiet in there! I think I'm getting fairly good at discerning baby kicks from gas now Grin

@NumNums96 Oh I see, I have a very active girl after dinner and then up until around midnight! She’s really feisty and I can see her kick which apparently is odd for this stage because I wasn’t exactly skinny!

Hi I have the same issues I'm 22 weeks, all was well with the scan but I do have a low placenta.

Small flutters and only when I'm chilled and relaxing.

My flutters have reduced over the last few days but still their faintly and was starting to be a bit concerned and considered using home doppler (only used once after 16 week appointment as feel its a bit risky and coukd cause unnecessary panic) but having read lots it's still quite early days for movements.

If you're really worried go see your Dr I'm.sure they won't mind x
