Hot water bottle in pregnancy

Is it safe to use a hot water bottle during pregnancy? I’m currently 31 weeks and I keep getting pain around my groin area for the last few days as if I’ve pulled all the muscles down there. Not sure if it’s from walking the dogs, but I’m quite uncomfortable and thought a hot water bottle might ease the pain.

Do I need to make sure it’s not too hot? Or is there anything else I could do to relieve the pain a bit?

Its fine. I used them a lot on my back and also in labour. The heat really helped.

I get lower back pain and use mine i just fill it from the hot tap rather than the kettle, I googled it and it's fine, I do avoid putting it on my bump though.

Hot water bottle perfectly safe. Your pain sounds like pelvic girdle pain which I’ve suffered with my entire pregnancy I’m 32 weeks now.
Some helpful tips.....
Warm baths, hot water bottle, regular paracetamol and sitting with your legs elevated. Try to keep your knees together as best you can you don’t want to overstretch your pelvis. Hope some of these tips help xx

Oh great, thank you all. Will make one up now!

Hadn’t thought it could be PGP harry - what is your pain like? I feel sore almost from the very tops of my thighs in between my legs and all round to the base of my bottom. A bit like how I’d feel after doing lots of squats maybe (which I definitely have not been Grin)

When I first got my pain I was convinced it was a pulled muscle funnily enough from walking the dogs. It first appeared early on for me about 20 weeks and I’ve suffered ever since. Mentioned it to midwife just in passing and she said def PGP. It started as a dull ache down one side of my groin just like a strained muscle. I didn’t rest and it soon travelled to both sides and my public bone I have now been diagnosed with SPD but in those earlier days it was def just pelvic girdle pain.
Try to reat the best you can, I’ve been signed off work sick for three weeks and the difference in my pain is incredible, I’m practically pain free during the day because I’m actually resting .

That sounds rough having it since 20 weeks! It does sound very similar though. I first thought I’d pulled muscles in my legs stacking logs and then was maybe holding myself oddly while walking the dogs and then pulling muscles around my groin, but I think it’s been going on for a bit too long now. I did some hoovering and floor mopping today and was really sore after that. I’m on maternity leave now so in theory I should be able to rest Wink so I might see if I can get someone to help with the dogs for a few days so I can properly rest.

I have two dogs and they aren’t walked daily anymore but cope fine, just let them run round the house like loons together to burn some energy. It would do them good to have reduced walks now before baby comes incase you can’t get out then they’re routine won’t be to disturbed.
I’ve found a warm bath before bed helps relax the muscles for the night making sleeping slightly more bearable. A pillow between my knees helps too x

Yeah I think that’s a good plan. They are both Farm dogs so used to being out all day, but they are both appreciating being able to lay in front of the fire instead sometimes especially now the weather is turning. We don’t have a bath sadly, but I will try the pillow between knees!
