Hello
I'm a first time mum and I'm meeting my consultant tomorrow as I have Placenta Previa.
I was wondering if anyone had advice on what questions to ask in appointment.
Thank you

I had total covering at 20weeks. Had a scan at 32 weeks which showed it had moved a lot to 1.9cm. I'm now waiting for another scan at 36 weeks to find out if it's moved even further.

It's worth asking how far it needs to move to clear you for natural birth. And when they make the decision. I also wanted to know about delayed cord clamping and skin to skin after the c-section.

It's really frustrating because it seems to be a waiting game.

If it's just a low placenta it's more than likely to move. But keep an eye out for any bleeding and take it easy.

Good luck. X

Hello I had this with DC2. I'm afraid it was a bit of a stressy pregnancy with lots of bleeds and a few hospital stays. Towards the end I was having so many they nearly kept me for the last month but decided to do a bit of an early c- section to cut the risk. DC2 came out all healthy and happy but unfortunately the sac somehow ripped a bit of my womb and I nearly bled out so had emergency surgery and tonnes of transfusions.

Not saying it to scare you as I'm 100 percent fine now as is the rather loud, happy and annoying child next to me but do realise you need to be really careful and watchful and don't do what I did saying 'oh I'm fine' all the time. If you see blood, call someone.

I had this and was admitted to hospital at 36 weeks and they said they would do a section at 38 weeks........It was hard for me to believe I had it as I had had no bleeding whatsoever which is apparently the main symptom, so I spent a week in hospital in compression stockings feeling like a total fraud. I then had a trans vaginalall scan at 37 weeks and they said the placenta had moved so I could go home and wait to go into Labour. Then 39 weeks, big bleed (only bleed) and emcs...!! I was fine and so was ds who is now 5, but it can be a risky complication and bleeding is not to be taken lightly. I was advised no def and had to be close to the hospital at all times......

Ask when they will scan for vasa praevia. It's a much more rare but potentially more risky version of it. I was diagnosed at 33 weeks and it probably saved my baby and maybe me as they took me into hospital for observation until she was born. I had a section with no issues and DD is at primary school happy and healthy. Most times the placenta moves so hopefully that will be the case for you.

Hi - no advice but I’m in the same boat. It was flagged at my 20 week scan, I’ve just been scanned again at 28 weeks and it hasn’t moved, I’ll be scanned again at 34 weeks. I haven’t had any bleeding or any other symptoms. I think it is common and as people have commented it can move..... if it doesn’t move then I feel fine about having a c-section as I know it will be less risky than a natural birth.
