Hi, was just wondering if anyone has had the same experience as me, I had the copper coil fitted on 21st Sept I had a heavy period after that and tonight I've realised I've had no period since, just a tiny bit of spotting, I haven't had a period in 6 weeks, please someone come along and tell me its normal thank you

Normal!

Mammaof · 06/11/2018 22:22

When I rang the Dr today she said as there is no hormones I should have had a period so now I'm worrying lol

Yeah it's the mirena that stops bleeding with a copper I would have expected a bleed, had you had sex before fitting? Have you checked for the threads? What were your cycles like previously? Try not to panic just yet Could be a weird or missed period

MadameJosephine · 06/11/2018 22:25

If you are pregnant there’s an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy with a coil in place do if I were you I would do a pregnany test and if it’s positive you need a referral to your local early pregnancy assessment unit for a scan ASAP

Thanks both for your honest replies, I hadn't even realised it had been so long to be honest!! Will definitely be taking a test tomorrow. I've been feeling for the strings throughout and have always felt them and still can now. I have read and was told about the increased risk of eptopic pregnancy so that is my main concern before the fact that I have no more bedrooms in my house to fill lol. Wish I lived closer to a 24 hour shop x

Good luck OP, hope everything turns out to be a false alarm

Mammaof · 06/11/2018 22:41

Thank you will update tomorrow, if I don't update you know the shock of being pregnant would have killed me

My hormone coil fell out.

Canders · 07/11/2018 07:18

I guess there is always a chance but to be honest, it sounds like the coil is just doing its thing.

I was on the coil for years (I've had two different types) and my periods stopped completely and it's very common apparently.

If you feel like you need to do the test to ease your mind then you should... but I wouldn't worry too much. Good luck

Mammaof · 07/11/2018 07:40

If it was the hormone coil I wouldn't even think twice about my periods stopping, but I should still be getting them with the copper coil, counting down the minutes until the school run so I can go to the shoo

I have had both the Mirena and Copper coil and they both did the same to my periods. Mirena more so.

Everyone is different though and if you're worried, it doesn't hurt to double check. I was on the pill and got pregnant recently lol.

Mammaof · 07/11/2018 11:13

Lymphy · 07/11/2018 11:23

You need a scan ASAP to check location and rule out ectopic, ring GP (you prefer probably already have) what a shock for you op I hope you're OK xx

Mammaof · 07/11/2018 12:41

Shock is under statement!! Trust me to be the % that it fails on!! Xx

I have to say I work in contraception we fit coils all day every day, I've done it for six years, I have only ever encountered one lady fall pregnant with a coil fitted in that time, give yourself some time for it to settle in then go from there, I really feel for you x

Mammaof · 07/11/2018 13:48

I think they said it's 1 in a million chance, trust it to be me! My youngest is only 1, I thought I was being responsible getting the coil fitted x

Wowza... good job you trusted your instinct!

lstef · 07/11/2018 16:34

@Mammaof wow what are the chances. you also need to get the coil removed whether you continue with the pg or not - or so I read when I had one for 6 years.

Mammaof · 07/11/2018 16:46

Yeah I'm booked into the Dr tomorrow thank you, so unsure what to do!! Xx

Oh op what a shock

Lymphy · 07/11/2018 17:21

You were being responsible you took the best method to avoid a pregnancy unfortunately you were unlucky, whatever you decide to do is the right decision for you, give yourself some time, if you develop any pain on one side or the other before your GP appointment go straight to A&E xx

Mammaof · 07/11/2018 17:51

Thank you all for your advice and being so supportive, and not judging xx

OP posts:
ColdCottage · 07/11/2018 22:31

I hope the appointment goes well.

If you want to talk PM me there are a number of risks with a coil in and it took 4 weeks to confirm mine had most likely fallen out rather than still being there and being pregnant so I did a lot of reading and thinking about the issues around being pregnant on the coil.

Mammaof · 07/11/2018 23:19

Thank you @ColdCottage my coil is definitely still in place so I'm really paranoid about an eptopic pregnancy will be glad to see the Dr tomorrow xx
