Hi all! I'm new to this so I'm not clued up with the terminology etc so please go simple on me!
I am 24 years old with a BMI wayyy above 30 but I want a baby... I have tried every diet under the sun but I cannot keep the weight off so I've grown impatient and we've started trying! But, what would the likelihood of me falling pregnant fast? If be really interested to hear people's stories Smile tia x

I was overweight - size 22 - when I conceived each of my three sons, and each time I fell pregnant on my second cycle trying.

I had no problems with any of the pregnancies, no gestational diabetes, the births were relatively uncomplicated, and none of them were large babies.

I've had two children, overweight with both. I conceived both times after losing around a stone.

With my first I was overweight, BMI around 32, I had the most perfect pregnancy and birth was uncomplicated and relatively calm.

With my second my BMI was 48, I had gestational diabetes, had to be induced and babies shoulders got stuck!!

I really do think it depends on how overweight you are. I was niave and thought my second pregnancy and birth would be a doddle too Blush

Hey, I want to be honest, I don't know how rare or normal my story is.
I am relatively healthy for such a high weight. I also have tired dieting for years, I'd lose a stone and put in two! It's exhausting and embarrassing to keep having so much faith in myself and yet still continually fuck it up.
I was 24 and had been with my husband for 7 years, he has wanted kids since we first met but for years I wasn't ready.
When I decided I was, I think he wanted us to go at it right away so that I didn't get a chance to change my mind!
I have never had high blood sugar, high blood pressure, or any other weight related issues (unfortunately I know this is just a matter of time unless o
I can finally sort my weight out!)
I came off the pill in the middle of August 2016 and got a positive pregnancy on 2nd December 2016. So in total around 3 months. I was nervous and did have some high anxiety, I researched pregnancy with a high BMI and wasn't happy with the results, I also found some midwives were not very nice about my weight and my notes were covered with HIGH BMI. The more I read about the birth with a high bmi (around 46!) The more anxious I got, I was worried about everything and eventually decided an elective c section was the best way forward for me, it also comes with more risks if you're obese but to me it seemed less risks, I have also been scared of the idea of childbirth for years, my research was meant to make me feel better, not worse.
I had a bit of SPD near the end of my pregnancy and I do think my weight might have exacerbated the condition but I know 8 stone women who have it so I might not even be right.
My son was born in a calming electric c section at 39 weeks and 1 day pregnant. It was simple and all went to plan, I was in the hospital 26 hours from operation to discharge. The pain was bad for a few days but was bearable.
Our son is now 15 months old and I am 15 weeks pregnant again, I had my implant removed on 5th June and and found out I was pregnant again on 26th August!
So exciting and I believe my weight hasn't held me back with most of it tbh. I have an elective c section already booked for 25th April 2019!
Good luck. Flowers

Hi @BigButBeautifulJJ
My story is very similar to yours except I'm 33 not 24 so decided I was running out of time.

If I'd had the option I would have loved to lose weight before getting pregnant but in reality my story is much like other posters. I would have some success and lose a couple of stone and then find myself heavier again.
So - I decided just to go for it.

We found it relatively easy to get pregnant - about 4 cycles but we only really timed sex correctly for the last two of those cycles.

What I found really helpful was an American website called plus size birth and their podcast Plus Mommy.
plussizebirth.com

It's not great on specifics for antenatal care as the American system is different to here, but the positive stories of people who have had healthy pregnancies and births at all kinds of weights are really helpful on keeping positive and getting everything in perspective.

I'm now 11 weeks and my midwife was really supportive even though my BMI at my first important was a lot higher than I thought it would be. I was referred to consultants which I was expecting but I don't mind some extra monitoring, and she said home birth wouldn't be recommended but I wasn't keen on that idea anyway.

Best of luck - hope things go well for you and for all of us!

Aww these stories have filled me with confidence. I'm so glad everything went well for all of you! Thank you for your lovely messages!! We got frisky on Sunday and ever since I have had some mild period like cramping so I'm kind of hoping that's a sign? Ive downloaded an app to track my cycle and it predicted that there was a high chance of conceiving that day. I'm scared and worried but for years I've been against having children until the past year. I had my implant removed in August and we played it safe with condom the first few times as I was admiant that I needed to get skinny first after scaring myself with internet facts like many of you ladies have but I thought screw it, I'm 5ft10 with a bmi of around 40 so I'll be at least 30 by the time I get to a good weight. I will update on the progress and hopefully in a few months I'll have a positive story to tell as well Smile
