Hi,
Just looking for advice - I am 17 +4 and think I might has restless legs.every evening I end up feeling so uncomfortable unless I am shaking my leg and every now and then it’s like it jerks if it’s own accord. It just feels so uncomfortable and is only relieved if I get up and walk around. I used to get this occasionally before being pregnant but never this bad. Has anyone had anything similar and does anyone have any suggestions of what might help? I have no idea if this is restless leg or not!

It drives me mad, mine has got better since I’ve been on iron tablets (prescribed by midwife) as low iron can cause it. Basically the only thing that helped before was a hot water bottle before bed

italianwifey · 08/11/2018 23:40

Thanks creas35 it does my head in too. I switched pregnancy vitamins yesterday and didn’t get it last night but sadly it was back again today! I might call the midwife as not due to see her again until jan and feels like ages to deal with it!

Magnesium spray is very good for restless legs. I have one called (from memory, I don't have it to hand), BetterYou.

Check it is OK to use in pregnancy.

Cold baths! Standing on tip-toes, running.providing compatible with pregnancy

sirmione16 · 08/11/2018 23:58

I was advised to put a cold or hot compress on them, maybe a hot water bottle will help? I was told to go to my GP if it was bad too

Iron tablets helped me too so might be worth checking with your midwife or doctor to see what your bloods are like.

I also get restless legs but I'd admit that I'm probably to blame for it. I usually sit cross legged and can stay in that position for long periods of time. I also have varicose veins at the back of my legs at my knee area, also most likely because I cross my legs a lot. I've started to get pain in my right leg which is worrying me, as the varicose veins are worse on that leg.
For the restless legs, getting up and walking around is normal. I find that issues with legs might be normal in pregnancy as more weight is put on them than they are use to. I'd suggest talk to your midwife if you're really worried! Smile

I’ve had this all my life but it got unbearable in pregnancy. Like the others I found that taking iron totally cured it. I bought spa tone sachets and mixed them with juice. I took it every night but if I forgot and ended up with restless legs I’d just take one and it would be gone after 30 minutes.

newrubylane · 16/11/2018 12:54

I have had it for years, but weirdly – I realised on seeing this – not since I've been pregnant (17w). I too am on iron tablets, so maybe they do help...

italianwifey · 16/11/2018 13:08

Thanks everyone - @livingonapear are these okay to take when pregnant? I called the midwife today and she mentioned leg crossing not being good but I don’t think I do generally and am quite a fidgeter and move around a fair bit rather than staying sitting. I called the midwife but she has just told
Me to make a GP appt, so I have!

@italianwifey yes it’s ok to take pregnant. My midwife suggested it as it’s easier on the stomach than iron tablets. I took both in the end as my iron was so low. The boxes are normally 3 for 2 in boots.

I really hope it works for you as I know what a nightmare it is. Another thing to try is doing lots of stretches along the back of your legs before relaxing.

italianwifey · 16/11/2018 14:39

@livingonapear thank you - before I had it I never realised it was so annoying!!! It really winds me up and feel so uncomfortable. Maybe I’ll give them a go :-)

Gah I feel your pain - 31 weeks and it’s driving me POTTY, especially with strong Braxton Hicks all the bloody time (third bsby! 😩)

I have found that Dead Sea salt baths help - I get a big sachet from TKMaxx of all places for just £3.50 and that really seems to help relieve them for a bit.
