Flashing stars in vision, normal or PE?

So I had a trace of protein in my urine last week, dr said level was 40mg and level to diagnose mild Pre eclampsia is 300 so not too worried. Have app with midwife on Wednesday and am going to have urine tested again, blood pressure is normal.

I've been having the odd occasion of flashing stars in my vision when I get up quickly or at other random times. Has anyone had this and not had PE? I'm so confused

I have been getting this since about 16 weeks when I started getting lightheaded/breathless. I have never had any urine in my protein, my blood pressure is fine and I am already on blood thinners for a pre-existing condition so my chances of having PE are apparently very low.

It could just be a random pregnancy symptom but I went for my 28 week appointment today and visual disturbances are on the list of symptoms that they told me we should call in urgently about (presumably because it can be a sign of PE), so I would get checked out ASAP just to be on the safe side. Call the triage line, don't wait til Weds.

I mean protein in my urine! baby brain!

Had this and was fine but this was determined after I was thoroughly checked over by gp and sent to hospital for assesment! Visual disturbances can indicate other issues so it's definitely worth getting checked out sooner rather than later.

Seeing stars here and there, especially if you get up quickly, is normal pregnant or not. The visual disturbances associated with PE are usually more than fleeting.

I think you mean PET - pre eclampsia. It can be very serious and you should go in and get checked out immediately especially since you have already had protein detected in your urine. Symptoms/ signs are headache, blurred vision, swelling, high bp, protein in urine. With pre eclampsia you might present with just one of these r all of them. The risk if undiagnosed is that you could have a seizure. It usually develops towards the end of pregnancy but can start anytime from about 20 weeks. Your protein level may be higher now then it was a few days ago. It can progress quickly so definitely don't wait until your routine apt. Ring your birth centre and I'm sure they will want to assess you. It may be nothing but not worth not getting checked out. Good luck

Since 35 weeks I have been getting tested for PE. Every time I go to my antanatal app midwife finds 4+ protein in urine, I’ve also had a lot off swelling, headaches, BP being high, although that goes up and down and seeing bright lights floating about. MW refers me too hospital and they do more tests but always send me home saying am fine, but yeah see what they say today and good luck!
I must admit the lights are actually really pretty, like bright white Christmas lights just floating about, something magical about it!

Hopefully it’s just one off those pregnancy things and all is ok x

@Alanares89 sounds exactly like the lights I see, loads of white lights lol. My protein level was quite low, not even enough to diagnose mild pre eclampsia, however my hands and feet are swollen too. Blood pressure hasn't ever been a concern, I'm hoping I was just dehydrated when I gave that sample. X

PE means pulmonary embolism (blood clots in the lung), pre-eclampsia is usually referred to by the full name or sometimes as PET.

The visual disturbance you’re having doesn't sound obviously like pre-eclampsia but I would always advise you contact your midwife to be on the safe side. As PP said it can progress rapidly so a quick blood pressure and urine check is never a bad thing.
