Can I have a home birth and the induction drip?

Happy to pay for a private obstetrician and/or anaesathist if necessary.

Had my contractions stop and start with 2 previous DCs and would like to try a home birth this time but not sure if I can?

Xx

You would have to talk to your midwife or try contacting some private obstetricians but I think it’s very unlikely, sorry. The risk would be too high and even if you paid privately I doubt anyone would do it as their insurance would be very unlikely to cover it.

Trying a homebirth without induction might be a better option but again a chat with your midwife would be the best place to start.

No basically! Not many obstetricians would be happy to be even present at a homebirth, especially then to induce. And there's absolutely no chance you'd get an anaesthetist anywhere near you!

Induction carries a higher risk of intervention i.e. forceps/section so I very much doubt it. I guess you’d need to decide what’s more important to you - not repeating your previous experiences of them stopping and starting, or a home birth? Good luck with whatever you decide.

I'd be very surprised if you could arrange this in the UK. You seem to have cash to throw at the problem so why not have a very luxe private hospital delivery like the Lindo Wing?

Often contractions will stop if position of baby isn't great or if you've got adrenaline rushing around your body. A home birth may encourage you to be more active and will certainly reduce adrenaline and increase oxytocin so you might find a home birth solves the stop start issue without the drip.

Midwife here: not a chance. Speak to who you like and offer to pay your life’s savings, but not a single professional will agree to it.
