Tandem pram nightmare (twins)

Rant alert!

Why's it so hard to find a tandem pram where one baby isn't practially on the floor? I struggle to bed down so this is a non-starter.

Why's it so hard to find a tandem pram under £1000?! Everyone says buy second hand but seriously, I can't find any on FB Marketplace, Shpock, Gumtree or Preloved. I will keep looking.

Why's it so hard to find a tandem pram suitable for newborns? They're all pushchairs which obviously you can't put a young baby in.

Please help!

I've heard good things about the baby jogger city select. There's some good second hand groups on Facebook. Also my friend who has twins got her pram through their local twins and multiples group.

:JohnLapsleyParlabane - I've just sent a request to join my local twins & multiples group on Facebook. Many thanks for the tip!

Is there a particular reason you want a tandem as opposed to a side by side double? The baby jogger city mini double is pretty narrow for a double and suitable from birth I think. Comes in at about £500.

MynameisJune · 04/11/2018 19:14

Mountain buggy duo. Same set up as the bugaboo donkey but much cheaper and you can definitely pick them up second hand.

Soubriquet · 04/11/2018 19:16

It’s not a tandem but out n about is a fanstastic double buggie

The only big bear, is it does not have parent facing once out of the carry cot

But it’s lighfweight, easy to push, fits through most standard doors

chickenchip · 04/11/2018 19:19

We really like the icandy pear double- slim, sturdy and light and easy to push. We got ours on fb selling site for £200

TheEagle · 04/11/2018 19:26

We adored our Out and About double with our twins. With newborn inserts it’s suitable from birth.

There are often good deals on double buggies on local selling pages. Your local twins’ club may have some offers too.

If we’d been loaded I’d have gone for the Bugaboo Donkey!

Could you ask family/friends to contribute to the cost of the buggy?

Congratulations by the way, having twins is never dull!!!

SiolGhoraidh · 04/11/2018 19:32

I agree with the recommendation for the out and about. It's lie flat so suitable from birth

kmreeve · 04/11/2018 19:38

We had the bugaboo donkey for our twins.. loved it. It is on the wider side, but we are rural and don't use public transportation so was perfect for us

Squiff70 · 04/11/2018 20:48

@Sunshinegirl82 - I didn't know there was a difference. I haven't yet found a suitable side-by-side for newborns and young babies and that puts me off a bit.

Side by sides are so much easier to punch as they get bigger and heavier. Highly recommend the out n about nipper. It is suitable from birth. The Mountain buggy which I’ve heard good things about allows you to attach 2 bassinets if you wish. I would say don’t get too hung up on which buggy is best for newborns. That’s a very short period of time and you’ll be using it for 3+ years.

Squiff70 · 04/11/2018 20:58

@MynameisJune - is that one suitable for newborns please?

@chickenchip - that looks really good actually, I might look into that! Thank you.

@TheEagle - Thank you! The Out and About double looks good too, thanks very much for that. I'll keep my eye out for deals but the one with two carrycots looks very reasonably priced at £549. My parents have offered to pay for the pram but I'd never ask them to form out over £1000 for one like the Bugaboo Donkey although it does look nice.

SiolGhoraidh - thank you, that's useful to know! :)

kmreeve - I don't drive so am reliant on buses. OH is having lessons and hopes to get a car before the babies are born. We'll see...

A long shot, depending on where you are, but there are several Emmaljunga twin prams on eBay. I had one (for babies 7 months apart, when I didn’t drive - nanny share!), and it was fab. Suitable from newborn and really sturdy. Emmaljunga double Viking is the new one I think but there’s a few on eBay for under £200 if you don’t want to buy new.

ellesbellesxxx · 04/11/2018 21:14

Another vote for mountain buggy duet.. we got the cocoons to attach to it for first three months so they were facing us but it is suitable from birth too

anniehm · 04/11/2018 21:15

I had a side by side reclining buggy I used from birth (with head insert) as my two are close in age, and I borrowed a tandem from a charity that wasn't double decker (they hadn't been dreamt of then) for the first 6 months for trips without the car.

MynameisJune · 04/11/2018 21:23

@squiff70 yes it is, a couple of my friends with 2u2 had it with their toddler and newborn.
