Anyone suffered with severe IUGR?

As the title suggests, my beautiful little rainbow girl has had a diagnosis for some weeks now of severe early onset iugr. I have looked online, and can't seem to find any cases that are as severe as what I'm experiencing. For reference, I am 27+2 today, but my baby is below the 1st centile, measuring at only 20ish weeks, and weighing just over 13oz. I'm just looking for any similar stories, regardless of good or bad outcome.

Hi Bp1993, I was wondering what your outcome was? Im asking because my bestfriend is going through this now and Iam trying to find anyone who has gone through the same thing? Any info would be so welcome. My friend is absolutely shattered and its heartbreaking.

I had IUGR in my 1st pregnancy with dd. I had oligohydaminos too but thankfully blood flow through the cord was fine. I had several growth scans and was induced at 36 weeks which failed so dd was born 10 days later via a section. She was 5lb 10oz but due to feeding issues dropped to 5lb. I have no idea what caused it, if it is more common in girl pregnancies but it was a very scary time. My placenta had failed and we very lucky that dd wasn't born sleeping. My only advice is to take each day as it comes , rest as much as possible, you are doing great eating and drinking wise, hold on to positive thoughts as that can get you through mentally. Is there anyone who can drop off meals for you, take your ds to school and pick up? Don't be afraid to ask for help.

My ds was born a whole 3lb heavier than his sister and I ate a very high in protein diet, lots of fresh fish, green leafy veg (kale and spinach), I ate a lot of lentils and drank lots of full fat milk and watee. I also rested lots too. I don't know if that made any difference as I had oligohydraminos at 34 weeks in his pregnancy too but thankfully hw was a big baby. Sending you lots of love, luck and positive energy x

Sorry just saw this is an old post. I hope it all worked out for you x

Anyone still on this post?

Been told the exact same thing now so I am being seen by FMU at local hospital. I have only had one scan with them so far and the news wasnt great but the consultant was lovely. She was realistic in both the ‘negative’ news and the ‘hopeful’ news and said there is still hope in every baby.

I am being scanned weekly now and have been put on Asprin to see if there is a increased flow to the placenta. They have told me I have to get to at least 28 weeks and baby needs to be approx 500g for any successful chance at delivery. I am currently 22 weeks and have been a complete mess recently so any similar experiences would be greatly appreciated to try and boost my morale.

:)

Talk to them about delivering early and ignore anyone who tells you baby isn't viable, fight. My beautiful boy was born at 28 +5 at 369g. He was on oxygen for a while and in hospital for a couple months but no major issues. He's now a perfectly normal toddler, nothing at all wrong with him. He's still small (just under the last line on the growth charts) but has been since he was born and is following the curve. He only weighs 10 kg at 2 years 8 months (actual). There's always hope, they're stronger than you think. Good luck xxx

I'm so sorry, I didn't realise this was an old post and directed my reply to the OP but tbh it does apply to you as well. Does your hospital have a Level 3 - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit? If not could you ask to be transferred to a hospital which does to deliver? As I said my lad was well under the 500g and is fine. We were about your stage when it was picked up, good luck xxx

@WIS76 Thank you so much for sharing your experience, such an incredible story and glad all worked out. I will definitely find out the level of my neonatal unit but it is a specialist hospital so I have been reassured they are really good.

Yeah same here we are aiming for 28 weeks for delivery and I should hopefully be around 500g, only 5 weeks to go which is petrifying :/

Oh we are in it for the fight plus it seems like I have a fighter on our hands as the little one has already denied all ‘impending miscarriage’ flags up until 20 weeks!

Thank you so much though, this has really helped sparked more reassurance for sure xx

@L56x if you are In the UK and have Facebook there is a support group called iugr support group uk, I’d really recommend you join it. There are so many hugely positive stories of little babies, delivered early who are thriving! People on it are so supportive too! There are lots of people who’s consultants were saying delivery at 24, then 28 then 32 weeks who ended up making it to 36/7 weeks. Really helped me feel more positive, especially seeing how far these babies come in a relatively short period of time xx

L56x · 01/09/2021 15:18

@Nc4post99 Thank you so much for the recommendation - I will definitely check this out! xx

Nc4post99 · 01/09/2021 17:36

Also @L56x I know mfm in the UK say there’s nothing that can be done for iugr but there are a few American iugr support groups on fb that swear by something called the brewers diet for aiding fetal growth. I don’t know if it actually works but might be worth a shot, there’s a fb group called dr brewers pregnancy nutrition, long wait list to join but you can google the basic principles of the diet xx

Sorry to jump on your post but I’m going through exactly the same thing as you, I could’ve wrote your post myself. How did things turn out in the end? So sorry if you ended up losing your little one, it’s a reality I’m trying to prepare myself for as I know my little ones chances are slim at this stage 😞

LE87 · 30/11/2021 18:47

Hi Clairereece97 I wondered how you got on? I’m in the same boat now at 24 weeks with a 360g baby xx

L56x · 01/12/2021 12:06

@Claireece97 Sorry did not see your reply on this thread! And send all the well wishes to both you and @LE87 ❤️

My little angel had to be delivered at 28 weeks at under 1 pound and I can proudly say she is doing amazingly well! I know the odds are slim but all I can say is you have to have so much trust and faith in your little one as trust me they are incredible! They are tremendous troopers and will astounded you how strong they are!

Best wishes xx
