Anyone had blood clots in pregnancy?

Asking for a friend (6 months PREG)
Deeply concerned
She had leg swelling last week t work, went to triage. They saw two clots one in her thigh, one in her belly
After keeping her in, they've now sent her home with blood thinner injections she has to do herself!!

We've googled it n nothing much is coming up which is making her panic more? The doctors said if she could manage the circulation til she gives birth they can remove clots after as removing clots now with radiotherapy is risk to baby.

It's just a bit daunting. Anyone had this ? And what Happened?

Thanks

Me but it wasn't diagnosed until after I'd had DS. I was lucky that the hospital at home team came out to do the injections. I think because you need clexane injections or similar for a while, this isn't feasible during pregnancy.

My clot was toe to hip and wasn't broken down. It eventually went on it's own.

She should be under a consultant for pregnancy. I would think she'd have a consultant for the clot management too and they should be able to help.

Yes I had a suspected blood clot and just had to self inject with clexane before and for 6 weeks after the birth. Everything was fine but it was a bit scary.

I had blood clots in my lungs during pregnancy - diagnosed at 28 weeks and I was put on clexane. Likely started as a DVT which travelled to the lungs. Had to inject twice a day for the remainder of my pregnancy and for a while afterwards too. Do you know what she's got to inject? Is it clexane? If so, here's some info:

The advice her doctor has given her is a bit rubbish TBH. Can she speak to her midwife? The hospital should have a joint haematology/obstetrics clinic in which they can help plan her delivery etc. She will need to stay on the blood thinners and it's possible they will need to do an induction to manage the delivery, and reduce risk of bleeding.

Tell her not to panic. She'll be ok Smile

I would have thought she'd have a consultant she'd be able to contact. Their service should be able to answer any questions.

Thanks for replies

So it can't harm the baby? Or affect the birth? They've said she needs to keep taking injections but will have to stop "48 hours" before labour because it will be in her blood stream!

She does have a consultant but she's been so stressed hasn't asked him questions as having a really hard time with BD.
I'm her rock atm n I've never heard of clots during pregnancy so it's all new to me to! That's why thought I'd ask on here, at least to see if there's any success stories. Her biggest fear is losing the baby because of these clots
Or having a complicated birth

Clexane won't harm the baby.

Yes they will take her off 48 hours before induction but she'll be closely monitored. She'll then go straight back on after the birth.

I think stopping the clexane is a precaution should she need an intervention. They'll keep a really good eye on her. X

I was on clexane throughout my first pregnancy for clots. It won't harm baby.

She should be referred to haematology and have more regular consultant appointments as a result.
