Hi everyone,
So, all of my friends who have had babies recently work for the same company I used to and have had a full maternity leave package so they are not really able to help. The youngest child born in my family was in the 90's so things have probably changed since then....So I'm just hoping someone here can give me some ideas.

Myself and DH are expecting our first DC. We've had to move around a fair amount due to his job. I worked in a full time minimum wage job previously and quit when I got a new job (part time civil service). Turns out I was 5 weeks pregnant when I left the full time job and, as I had a few weeks off in between due to travelling/family visiting I started civil service job at just over 10 weeks (although I was offered the job months before-the delay was due to background checks etc. All crazy timing haha). I'm assuming I'm not entitled to any maternity pay because I started when I was already pregnant when I started. My manager is aware of the pregnancy, but thinks it's unlikely I'll be untitled to anything.

Any idea what I would be entitled to and how I go about claiming?
Possibly maternity allowance? Or is there anything else.
I'm brand new to this and have never claimed anything in my life so have literally no clue where to start.

You'll be entitled to something. It'll probably be maternity allowance:

Fill in the form here:

Check civil service maternity policy. I work for NHS and they have policies explaining it all clearly. Such as you need to be in your post for a year by a certain week before estimated date of childbirth. I agree that it's likely you will be entitled to maternity allowance.

You should be able to get the baby box too. I was in a low wage job and I got SMP.
