They found a Fibroid at 30 week Placenta Previa scan....?

(Going to try an keep this short as I'm feeling a little blah)

I'm now 30 weeks and they've been keeping an eye on my placenta position as its low and covering my cervix (Placenta Previa), was supposed to have another scan at 34 weeks but they brought it forward as I had what they said was an old bleed (a lot of brown) at 27 weeks and went in to hospital twice to have it checked - they scanned me but couldn't explain where it came from, only that it wasn't from my placenta - and just to watch out for any fresh red - But I have constantly told them how tender and painful it is in my pelvic area - ever since 6 weeks where I went for an early scan.

My DD1 has just turned one and I had SPD (also now) so they just put it down to that I think - but I have had 6 scans since.

My Obstetrician wanted to have a proper look so she did the scan today - and immediately went to the place I have been telling everyone is painful and asked 'has anyone told you about a fibroid here'?

I said no (Tbh I didn't even know what a fibroid was!) - she had a proper look and said I have one right in the area that's painful and it looks like it may have bled.....and not to google it as she doesn't think it looks cancerous...…but the very mention of that word has sent my mind crazy - she also kept reassuring that it was very common but needed to be kept a close eye on and we would come back in 3 weeks to have a look to see if it hasn't changed shape, size etc and to discuss a birth plan re: placenta previa anyway.

Baby looks fine and healthy nd growing right on track - so thankfully no concerns there!! (even hair showed up on scan :) )

Has anyone had experience of a fibroid or any of this???

Sorry.....this wasn't short! x

I have a fibroid. It started when I took clomid and is now 3cm. They are NON-cANCEROUS tumours. I promise, many rumours are benign. I e also had a benign bone tumour which hurt like an absolute fucker and needed removing. One of the main differences between benign and cancerous is that benign tumour may grow but they don't spread to other areas.

Many many women over 30 get fibroid(s). Most of the time the pose absolutely no issue. Many grow during pregnancy and some then shrink afterwards.

Keep an eye, but for the VAST majority it's a non-issue...

Yes I had fibroids. They increase in size during pregnancy then shrink afterwards.
I had extra scans just to monitor.
I had lots of pain too and it transpires one of mine was pedunculated (attached by a sort of stalk to the wall of my uterus). When this gets stretched or pulled it can cause pain. Mine actually detached which was why it was so painful and that fibroid just floated around for the rest of my pregnancy.
They need to check they don't get in the way of delivery but other than that not a problem.
I had an ultrasound after dd was born and they had shrunk back down again.

I recently found out at my early scan that I have a couple of these. I have tenderness in my abdomen and pain when my bladder is full.

To be honest I was quite disappointed at my GP about this. I've been suffering with endo for years and they kept fobbing me off saying I can't possible still be in pain. Ultrasound lady found it instantly and said it was the cause of my pain and heavy periods.

On a plus note, she was very reassuring and said that these usually don't cause any problems at all during pregnancy and often shrink later on.

I've just read my notes from today and it mentions its 4 x 5 x 9cm and the area surrounding is notably 'red' ? (she mentioned it looks like its bled) she's also remarked that this hasn't been picked up on any of my previous scans - even though abdo pain has been prominent throughout my pregnancy, written up as 'round ligament pain' - even after bleeds and ultrasound (s) to investigate.

They have been concentrating on my placenta position though, so maybe I should just be grateful they've found this now also as a C-section was always on the cards because of that -

I've always had problems with my periods/cysts etc but they've never been investigated - maybe a problem I've always had but no-ones ever looked into it -

It doesn't seem to be effecting baby right now though so really, really thankful for that - am worried that it's another thing to add to pre-term risk list though - Placenta Previa, close pregnancies (DD1 14months), Displaced pelvis (spd), over 35....and now Fibroid.....

I Jinxed it by saying ' I just want to enjoy this pregnancy'....Last one!

Ok, so made the mistake of googling...(I wanted to find out what 'red degeneration' was) and have been feeling really sore (it comes and goes though) and slightly sick - this is starting to constantly play on my mind now!

But have you seen the risks for having it removed? Especially during pregnancy, the uterus grows and could be severely weakened by removal which could lead to rupture.

Assess it again after the pregnancy. And remember they often shrink back a bit after pregnancy. Oh and they disappear after menopause.

I don’t think fibroids are know to be something that will affect your baby or cause any problems to exacerbate pre-term risk (I did a lot of reading about this!).
I had one of similar size and another developed as the pregnancy progressed. It’s possibly they were much smaller initially so weren’t spotted then.

It may make your c-section a bit more complicated due to increased risk of bleeding and depending on their location, but it’s good you will be elective so they can make sure you will be on in the most senior/appropriately experienced persons list. I’d take along a list of questions to ask your obstetrician next time you see her.
