Does a big bump = a big baby?

Hi
Coming up 32 weeks and I’m huge. I get comments from everyone about how big my bump is.
My cousin is 6 weeks ahead of me and I’m bigger then her. Yet I’ve measured bang on at the midwife appts for the number of weeks that I am.
My husband was only a 6lb baby and I was 7lb 4oz. My niece was only 4lb 9oz full term.
At my 20 weeks Scan, baby was measuring bang on what he should have been.
But I’m really worried I’m having a 10lb baby. I’m not prepared for this at all.
Did your huge bump end up with you having a huge baby?
I don’t think I’m carrying too much fluid. My last scan revealed the amount was normal.
Stories please!!!!

I had a 9lb 3 baby and was enormous, but also had polyhydramnios and a massive cord according to the doctor that delivered him! Lots of factors involved, I wouldn't worry!

I had enormous bumps with both of mine but my 1st was 6lb something and 2nd was 5lb something. Can only assume my waters were the volume of an Olympic swimming pool! So it might not be too bad op. Good luck either way! Flowers

Are you small or big? If you're small and slim, a 6lb baby bump is going to look huge on your frame.

We all carry differently, some more water etc, if the measurements are normal, take reassurance from that.

I don't think so. I was huge, like struggling to move, had to roll out of bed in the morning, got stuck in the bath of an evening huge and my son was very average. 7lbs 9oz and 57cm

Thanks everyone for your stories and comments.
I thinks it’s safe to say the bump doesn’t predict baby size.
I’ve got 8 weeks left so I’ll find out soon anyway.
It’s reassuring to know that so many of you that had big babies had very simple births. Every time I watched OBEM (not many episodes might I add) the women that have 10lb babies seem to always end up in c-section or forceps.
Maybe I should try that perineal massage everyone keeps talking about 😂

I measured 2-3 weeks ahead my entire pregnancy and DD was measured at 8lb 6oz at 36 weeks pregnant so everything was pointing to her being a big baby.. she was 7lb 6oz.

There's loads of reasons for having a big bump, it really doesn't always mean big baby.

I had a huge bump second time around, which I thought was because I’d been bigger to start with and have no stomach muscles left. But no it was because I had grown a huge baby, she was overdue but was 10lbs. I’m not posting to worry you though, more the opposite to reassure you if scams do say it’s big. The birth was miles easier than my 8lb first child, only a small tear and gas and air for the last hour. So even if your scans do show a big baby don’t worry. You’ve got this, step away from OBEM and start reading positive birth stories. Also people often say big babies are more contented, no idea if it’s got a grain of truth in it, but she’s been miles easier than my first too.
