Hi ladies, just a really quick question as I've searched the net and can't find many answers.
Currently pregnant with two kids youngest being 4.
My boiler has broken and as you can imagine my house is absolutely freezing.
Rung British gas as we are on a home care plan and the next available appointment they have given us us Saturday afternoon/evening!! That will be 4 days in total with nothing. I made it clear that I was really not happy as they usually sent someone out the same day!
I thought it had to be classed as a priority with children but she was dead certain there's nothing they could do.

Actually nearly in tears as it is that cold and I have so much to clean. They've not even offered to bring any form of temporary heating out which they have previously.

Our boiler broke last year and called British Gas for a repair man, they said they could come in 5 weeks. WEEKS. We're not on one of their plans, we just got a local bloke to fit a new one but there is no way I would ever sign up to one of their plans on the back of that.

I realise that doesn't help you in any way at all op.

I can’t see it’s such an issue as you have an electric shower. I live in Scotland in a cold stone built building and haven’t been able to put on the heating on due to work getting done on the flat over the last few weeks. I’m 9 months pregnant and have wrapped up warm with layers, duvets and hot water bottles. It’s also a great excuse to snuggle with people. There’s plenty the can be done to deal with it in the meantime before it’s fixed....it’s not that long to Saturday

Contact you landlord and ask for a heater - there’s no way I’d leave a tenant without heat especially if they had kids. They should have landlords insurance so may be able to get it repaired through that?

A580Hojas · 31/10/2018 13:41

When this happened to us we borrowed 2 fan heaters from neighbours and kind friends let us go to theirs for baths/showers.

Can you bath the kids at your parent's house this afternoon?

I'm surprised that just being pregnant and having children makes you any sort of priority in the queue for repairs, tbh. Surely the elderly should come first?

Sorry but this sounds completely overly dramatic. 4 days without heating when it's 7-10 degrees outside and it's an emergency?

You realise there are homeless people sleeping on the streets and people who can't afford heating all winter long?

I live in a bladly insulated house and I'm not using the heating as it's really expensive. Just wrap up and have hot chocolate/soup for a few days. Try going out and keeping active and you won't be cold. You have an electric shower, for God's sake.

I feel your pain, our boiler broke (completely, it was 21 years old) between Christmas and new year last year and we had to wait about 10 days to get it sorted. Was freezing in January. We borrowed heaters and boiled water for washing. Wish we had had an electric shower! Its not THAT cold out, so I f you can borrow a heater (we also bought one on amazon, was pretty cheap) then I really don’t think your situation is too bad!

Nebulacat · 20/12/2021 04:33

Hey y’all be careful, people can die in 17 degrees from hypothermia. It’s not a joke. Be safe and stay warm. Saying 10 degrees is not that bad isn’t fair. Homeless people on the street die in 30 degree weather.

I would hope the OP has got her boiler fixed in the 3 years since she posted @Nebulacat! Even British Gas aren’t that slow…

@Nebulacat

Considering you've resurrected a thread from 2018, I'd hope the OP would have this sorted by now.
