Anyone else had this experience when getting induced?

Hi,

Was just wondering if this is normal..

I was originally induced on Friday when they inserted a pessary and let me go home.
They said they could have broken my waters then but decided it would be kinder to put the pessary in to give my body more chance to do it on its own.
Nothing happened so I returned 24 hours later (3pm Saturday) and they examined me at about 5pm and said they could easily break my waters and were really happy for me because it meant they wouldn’t have to give me another 24 hour pessary and I could be moved onto the labour ward to have my waters broken. The midwife said I’d most likely be moved later on that evening.

But I’m still waiting to be moved...

It’s now Monday morning and I’ve watched 3 other women go to the labour ward and I’m getting really fed up about still being here just waiting.

I know they can’t help it if they’re busy but I’m just getting extremely fed up and was wondering if it’s normal to be waiting this long or if I’ve just got unlucky?

I’m now 13 days overdue and feeling very sorry for myself 😞

I had similar with my ds but it was 24 hours before they would even put pessary in as they were so busy then once i was ready for waters breaking it took 12 hours to get me a bed. In the meantime though my body had taken over so I think it would have been longer than 12 hours had I not needed further pain relief. They did break my waters for me anyway and it only took a few hours from that point. I am going in at 9am today to be induced and dreading it. Mainly because I have 2 young children and I fully expect it to take days. But as I am being induced as high risk I am not allowed home once i am in. So it could be Thursday before I see my kids again.😣
Hope it all speeds up for you. Have a word with the ward manager and explain how you are feeling. May not speed things along but may give insight into how long it will be. Its all very frustrating for you. Good luck.

I had a similar thing. I had the pessary and was ready to have my waters broken but had to wait 2 days. However there was a woman on the induction ward when I arrived who had been waiting for 5 days. It depended on how many women came in who were in active labour and therefore needed the delivery rooms so it was hard for them to say how long I'd wait but it's always worth you telling them how you're feeling.

I was admitted for induction on Monday morning with my first baby. I was already 1cm so didn't need the pessary, the plan was they would take me straight to delivery to break my waters. Husband started paternity leave, we waited....and waited. Sent husband back to work in the end - luckily his company were quite flexible! They finally took me down at 10pm on the Friday.

It was miserable being on the induction ward with women in labour all around. People would come in, have the pessary, go in to labour....and I'd still be sitting there. I really understand your frustration! I got hardly any sleep in the run up to labour. Have you got some ear plugs and a sleep mask? That helped me to get a little bit of extra sleep. Ask for a ball and keep bouncing on it....even though I felt shattered, I had a successful delivery in 12 hours once they finally broke my waters!

It is really difficult but remember that ultimately you are close to meeting your baby now. Have a bath, have a little walk around....Do have a word with whoever is in charge and remind them that you are still there and waiting. I hope you're not waiting too much longer. Good luck op! x

Sorry to say that I was in a similar situation only that I had the pessasry and my waters were able to be broken but there was a bed block on labour ward - I had to wait 6 days in total before getting to labour ward. In the end I only got moved through because DD heartbeat dropped for a while and I was put to top of list. I was the most frustrating time because I was so fed up constantly wondered if today was the today. Every time they told me another lady had been taken just killed. All worked out fine in the end but not nice at the time. Best of luck! It won’t be long now x

Thank you all for responding it was nice to hear that I wasn’t the only one that has been in that situation. I was really fed up by the end of it!

Happy to say now that baby boy was born at 3:10am yesterday morning via emergency c section and is doing great now!
