Breech babies

I'm now 32+4 and ever since the midwife started measuring my tummy and feeling baby's position, he's been breech. He's always in the same position and never turns round despite being really active. Regularly get painful kicks down below which make me stop whatever I'm doing and get strange looks 🙈 Seems he's quite comfortable where he is. Midwife said if he's still this way by my next appt I'll need to go for a position scan to confirm and then discuss my options.

What's other women's experiences of this?

I'm measuring perfect for dates on the 50th centile although my bump is still quite small, I can easily hid it, so maybe there just not much room for him to move?

Hi, mine was breech at 32 weeks, I was told to go on all fours for a total of 15 mins but break after 5 mins (so 3 x 5 min sessions).

I went on my elbows and after a few days baby had turned. I only know because I had to go in for reduced movement. Apparently being on all fours creates more room, also I read bouncing on a ball helps but not sure if that's true.

Mine is still breech at 34 weeks. I've been doing yoga cow/cat moves on all fours but no change yet, and the full spinning babies lying on an ironing board stuff is a bit much for me, and I've decided against ECV and moxibustion. My doctor did comment that being my first baby, me being petite and the fact he's been breech for ages reduced the chances of ECV working so perhaps lack of space is a factor.

There was a thread about this the other day though and lots of people were commenting that their baby turned at 37/38/39 weeks - a friend's baby recently turned on the morning of her ELCS which was promptly cancelled! So it can happen very late on.

Have a look at the spinning babies website. It's great for helping you to learn baby's position and has suggestions of what you can do to encourage baby to go head down. Basically doesn't slouch on the sofa! It's still early so you have time to help baby move into a better position.

I had regular growth scans with DD and she was breech from 28 weeks onwards despite getting myself into all sorts of positions I'd seen on Pinterest. She never turned so at my 36 week appointment an elective caesarean was arranged. I'd had an emergency caesarean with DS, so they wouldn't try to turn DD in case of rupture. Turning baby may be offered to you. It's worth reading up about it and deciding if you think it's worth a try and the risks involved. You can deliver a breech baby but my hospital only had two people trained in breech birth so an ELCS was the best option for me.

There's still time for baby to turn though. He won't have run out of room just yet.

at my 31w appt the midwife thought my baby was breech but wasn't too sure. She didn't say to much more about it as there is still plenty of time to flip. I've been bouncing on a ball and last night my husband read about a technique involving kneeling on the sofa with my arms resting on the floor so we had a giggle and tried that out. Still getting quite deep painful kicks to my bladder/cervix though so not sure if it's worked just yet!

I had weekly scans from 24 weeks and dd was breech at every one (toes up to her forehead), she turned at 37 ish weeks when I was pushing ds in his buggy. It was very uncomfortable when she turned!

Little update... 34 weeks today and baby still hasn't budged. They said they will monitor til 37 weeks then scan to confirm his position.

I'm getting increasingly nervous now as I'm not sure what to expect. I've already decided that I wouldn't like the ECV, would this be frowned upon?

Iv no experience of this personally, but would your midwife/hospital support a breech birth? Might be worth researching your options so that you are fully informed rather than being told what you must do and can question your options..

Xx

No she did say if he's still breech they would be offering a section, I don't think they have midwives who are confident in delivering breech babies and I don't think I'd feel confident attempting it to be honest. I just wish he was head down 🙈 xx

Mine's breech at 32 weeks and was breech at 30 weeks too. He seems to only go breech for scans as he's been head down since about 24 weeks. I have too much fluid so he's able to just flip whenever he wants - we'll see what happens at 36 weeks at the presentation scan.
I'm not sure about an ECV, is it uncomfortable?

AlwaysColdHands · 08/11/2018 15:44

My ECV 4 years ago was extremely uncomfortable and made me very anxious and stressed. As it didn’t work I was booked in for planned c-section next day at just under 39 weeks & it was smooth, calm & I was fortunate to have no complications and good recovery.
If my current 16 weeker is breech I’ll go straight for c-section again, in fact I’m considering it regardless as it was such a positive experience.
It’s so hard to know what to do, but advice was not to try to deliver breech, and I had faith in that.

I'm finding it increasingly heard to breathe, especially when baby keeps stretching out 🙈 anyone have any tips on dealing with this? Xx
