9 pound baby from growth scan

I’m currently 40+2 weeks and have been told after a growth scan the baby is already weighing 9.2lb. The size has terrified me has anyone else had a baby naturally this size? Do the growth scans tend to be fairly accurate?

My dd was 9.4, she was born in 2 hours with just gas and air and no tearing. Really you’ll be fine.

my boy came out 9lb 7 at 41 weeks .. didnt feel a thing but then i was on morphine XD he was so big!! I didnt tear either so no stitches.

ILiveForNachos · 26/10/2018 22:35

Similar to others. 10lb 2er over here. Straight forward birth, no intervention and minor tear. Remember big doesn’t mean wide. My daughter was long! Of my NCT group I had the biggest baby and the ‘nicest birth’. You’ll be ace 👊🏻

Another vote for the scans not being very accurate. DC1’s late scan predicted 10lbs, actual weight 9lbs 1oz. DC 2 late scan predicted 8lbs-8lbs 7oz, actual weight 10lbs 2oz.

Both scans at least 1 lb out.

Good luck!

ILoveDolly · 26/10/2018 22:54

Scans are not accurate. But I came here to say that all three of mine were around 9lb mark or slightly less, all quite straightforward natural births. The final one was a home birth in 1hr 15 and he was 8lb 9! Big babies can slip out easily, just try not to worry!!

NotSoThinLizzy · 26/10/2018 22:58

The told me that my DD would be only 5 pound and she came out at 7.7 and my DS they told me he would be 9 pound he was 7.8 😂

laurG · 26/10/2018 23:47

Mine way off! Estimated 8lb8oz was 7lbs 2oz. Don’t think weight makes much difference tbh. You’ll be fine x

Just thought I would update.. we were estimated 9.2 but 5 days later baby born 8.12 🙂

Congratulations OP.
Hope your birth went OK and you and the baby are home and settled.

Iswallowtoothpaste · 02/11/2018 07:08

Not as big a most on here but my DD (my first) was 8lb 13oz. Really quick and easy birth, no tearing.

Gave birth to her on my knees and was only 10 minutes pushing.

TheDayMyButtWentPsycho · 02/11/2018 07:28

That's not tooooo far off their estimate to be fair!

Congratulations. Xx

Had a 9.4lb baby by natural birth no tearing and was fairly quick and not too painful (just the final contractions and couple of pushes which I would describe as very painful). Afterwards the midwives told me that often big babies are quicker and easier to birth. So don’t worry about it.

Oops just seen the update- congratulations

Hopefully other women reading this are reassured that having a big baby is nothing to fear

Babbaganoush · 03/11/2018 03:46
