Hi everyone. I’m 6 weeks pregnant and I have all day sickness. I’m constantly feeling sick, like literally constantly and just being sick throughout the day. Does anyone have any tips on anything that may ease it? Thankyou

I’m sorry to say I had this, it was awful! The one thing that helped was lots of sleep. If I slept more I felt less sick. Also eating small regular meals and snacking. I was on antisickness tablets from the gp too.

I’ve got some sea bands (google them) which I put on when I wake up and take off when I’m in bed.

They aren’t taking away all of the nausea (and I think mine is not actually bad - just draining and very much discouraging me from eating! Although they might also be doing a lot more work than I realise...), but within 5 minutes of putting them on in the morning things start to ease up.

They can also be used in conjunction with other things. I’ve been finding fox’s glacier mints to be helpful - it’s a very gentle flavour, but it makes things feel better.

However, if yours doesn’t ease up significantly soon, it’s a good idea to see your doctor about it.

For my personal experience I was sick all day every day for 4 pregnancies but all my babies were good weights 8lb being the smallest, except for the first baby who was small at 6lb 4oz but for a time I couldn't even keep down water for her and the Dr didn't care.

My own daughter had awful morning sickenss and lived on watermelon for months, in the middle of winter. Hot food or anything with a smell made her sick and melon provided her with enough sustenance and hydration to stay at work.

Just find something that you can eat and is pleasant to throw up.

Mints were the only thing that remotely worked for me. They didn’t remove the nausea entirely but meant I could make it through the day. I also second getting more sleep, I was generally in bed by 9pm during the first trimester.

Talk to your midwife or gp about it. As soon as I spoke to mine they offered medication, and the sooner you start the more effective it is. I had to try a couple of different meds before finding one that worked but my sickness is now mostly under control. Other than that, take it easy, get plenty of rest, eat when you can and drink as much water as possible. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks a lot everyone. I can’t sleep much as I work and have a two year old. I nap when he’s at nursery. It’s just constant. All I can keep down is fruit at the minute but then I’m throwing up alway throughout the day anyway. I may speak to my GP and suck some mints in the mean time. Thanks all!

I had terrible sickness with my first, anything I ate / came back up... even water.

The only thing that worked for me was was milk with Horlicks in. It's probably just down to each person but it works for me.

Good luck - I hope you're feeling better soon

mummytogirl · 25/10/2018 17:47

I'm exactly the same as you, all day feeling sick and being sick, currently 6 weeks also with a 3 yr old not easy when all you want to do is roll into a ball and go to sleep! Finally got some anit sickness from gp, def are helping a abit but still feel nauseous all day, Jacobs creams crackers seems to be a help!! Your not alone!! Good luck

This will probably sound a bit woo-woo, but have a look at an app called Nevasic. It’s basically weird music that is meant to rebalance your inner ear and relieve sickness. I’ve used it for travel sickness very successfully (although not morning sickness yet...). It’s been proven in clinical trials in both the UK and US and from what I read seems to work for about 80% of people. It’s not the cheapest app (I think about £17 when I bought it) but saved me when I had been ill all weekend and had to go on a four hour coach journey in 35C heat! Good luck x

RosiePosies · 25/10/2018 22:59

I'd get to the GP, as often the sooner you start treating it the better. I lived on mango and crackers for the first few months!

Hermagsjesty · 25/10/2018 23:01

So sorry you’re going through this. Definitely go and speak to your midwife and/ or GP. They prescribed me an anti sickness medicine that really helped.

LittleBirdBlues · 25/10/2018 23:03

It's trial and error and very individual. You have my sympathies, it can w really awful!

Sparkling water, frozen berries and cream crackers worked for me during my latest pregnancy. During another it was avocado and salt. Yet another it was boiled potsgoes only. Some people say polos but I couldn't handle sugar at all.

Good luck getting through this bit! I find pregnancy much much easier during the second half. And congratulations it will e worth it.

LittleDoveLove · 26/10/2018 08:43

I had terrible nausea, my sonography ( I had to go to EPU) suggested a couple of digestive biscuits every hour. I had one every now and again (didn't want so many!) and it did seem to help a bit. Eating seemed to curb it slightly.

Spargle · 27/10/2018 08:18

OK, so I did a bit of research about the Nevasic app. It’s £13.99 at the moment. I couldn’t find any reliable reviews which didn’t look like they might have been paid for (I don’t take reviews on the company’s own website as representative, necessarily!), apart from one which said, basically, “It worked for me, but not for my two friends”, and another which said “It didn’t work for me “.

I was feeling too rough to concentrate on anything, despite the sea bands, so I bought it anyway.

I’m on day 2 with it, and it does seem to be helping me. I listen to it whenever I feel sick, so I’ve had a lot of use out of it! It’s definitely not got rid of all of the nausea, and when it does get rid of it, it comes back after a bit, but it really does seem to be easing things. Yesterday, I managed some productive things without feeling particularly bad for a while in the afternoon. I get the impression that my morning sickness is gradually escalating, which is not a nice feeling! So having a better day than the day before is encouraging! (I’m 5+6, by the way - entering peak nausea territory. Please don’t remind me that’s week 9; I don’t want to know!)

It says you use it for 30 minutes a day, but I used it for many hours yesterday. It is supposed to be more effective after 4 days - will hopefully report back again then.

It’s not exactly music as I know it, but it could be a lot worse. I know that I will not be able to listen to it when I am feeling well again, though - all of my recent memories are nausea-tinged, and this music is very, erm, distinctive! Think 80s synthesiser with a modern twist, but the composer, despite having a certain amount of talent, doesn’t quite understand how music actually fits together completely. Also, you need to listen to it using headphones.

In summary, I am very pleased with it, despite its weirdness. I’d certainly recommend it to other desperate people who can afford it. If anyone else does decide to try it, I would be very interested in hearing what they have to say about it.

Spargle · 30/10/2018 12:43

Thought I’d update on the Nevasic app. Think I’ve been using it for 5 days now. Right now, I am not actually feeling sick. Granted, I am only one step away from it, but that step is an important one! I’ve also had a few other periods of feeling like this over the past three days.

I’m not at the stage where I can eat most things, but the things I can eat taste delicious (triangle cheese on crispbread is my limit at this exact moment in time).

I listened to the recording thing three times this morning when I woke up at 5.20 this morning, then got up for a small breakfast, then back to bed. Woke up at 8ish because the phone was ringing, and felt pretty sick, but got back to sleep quickly. Woke again at 11 (self-employed and not needed this week. Hope I don’t run out of money!), feeling hungry and a step away from sick. Yesterday evening I felt fairly similar - maybe slightly worse at times. But it’s an improvement! Listened to the app once before going to sleep.

So I’m listening to it about 4 times a day right now, and feeling so much better than before I started.

Of course, I am just one person. This is in no way a scientific study. With a sample size of 1, the apparent success of the app could be due to any number of things, some of which I don’t really want to think about!

I’m still not getting paid for this, by the way. I was just frustrated at the lack of trustworthy reviews I could find and decided to try to leave one myself.

Oh, and right now I have just started actually to feel sick. Only just, and it’s not terrible. Still better than before I started!
