Anyone else breech/transverse? Need a handhold ☹️

Hi all,

I’m 33+2 and baby has been either breech or transverse pretty much the whole time. She’s currently got what I think is her bum/back wedged under my ribs on the left, and her head is poking out of my righthand side, lower down. All my kicks and movements are down in my pelvis.

My midwife has said it’s perfextly possible for her to turn on her own but she seems so wedged in, I can see it happening. I’m currently bouncing on my Swiss ball having woken up at 5 feeling like my stomach is going to explode from stretching 😩.

I’ve tried all the spinning babies stuff and will prob go for the ECV if it gets to that point, but I’m so worried she’s stuck there for a reason (eg tangled up in her cord).

I know it’s not the end of the world to have a csection and of course I’ll go ahead with whatever the consultant says is safest if she doesn’t flip, but it’s really not what I wanted.

Just wondered if anyone had any experience they could share (with either outcome!) to stop me from weeping as I bounce up and down feeling sorry for myself....

I'm in the same situation. I'm 33+4 today - had a scan on Tuesday and they confirmed Baby was transverse. She's been that way for most of the pregnancy so I don't have a huge amount of faith that she's going to turn! I was also dreading a c-section - I was induced with my DS but had a generally good birth experience and was hoping for the same again!

Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories - it has made me feel better if I do have to have a section, although keeping everything crossed that she moves....Good luck too op! x

Too soon to tell, baby has time to turn.

BUT both of mine were breech (I used to rest a brew on their heads 😊) and I had a EMCS with DS, then an ELCS with DD.

Dontfeellikeaskeleton · 25/10/2018 12:44

but no one told me I could be so stretched up top!

^^

I remember this. I felt like I'd been doing situps all night.

Chance 'd be a fine thing.

Loads of time. My dd was breech up until about 36 weeks. I went back about 5 days later for a growth scan and she had turned. She did however go transverse during labour and I had a c section anyway. Little minx. It wasn't that bad the c section.

HJE17 · 25/10/2018 14:03

I think my DD turned around 37 weeks. Before that she was also transverse or breech. I didn’t really do anything to help her along - she just turned of her own accord eventually. The midwives told me pretty much anything can happen in that last trimester. Try not to fret!

SuperstarDJ · 25/10/2018 14:13

Am currently 35+3 and DD is breech and back to back. Ironic as at my anomaly 20wk scan she was so head down they could do the head measurements properly and I had to go back for a rescan a few weeks later (where she was still in the same position)

I have an appt next week to check her position and I’ve accepted that if she hadn’t turned by wk 36 she’s probably not going to. I’m not opting for an ECV as my placenta is anterior and the success rates are too low to override the potential risks for me personally.

I’d rather not have a csection due to the recovery time and already having a 2 yr old but I’ve accepted it’s a real possibility now and I’d rather my baby out the quickest safest way possible.

My dd was breech or transverse right up until 36 weeks when she turned. She stayed head down but was back to back and I had a very long labour.

I'm now 32 weeks and this baby is behaving the same! Personally I'm not that keen on an ECV so will probably elect for a c-sec if it doesn't turn even though I'd rather not have one (after having had a very long back to back labour I'm somewhat reluctant to go through with another, on the face of it, difficult vaginal birth).

Anecdotally acupuncture and moxibustion is meant to be good for turning babies so I'm investigating that route. I'm also making an effort to sleep on my side rather than my back as that is meant to help.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 25/10/2018 14:28

33 weeks is still very early! 2 of mine were still breech until 37 weeks and the last one transverse, and all turned naturally, with no spinning babies / moxibustion etc. The worst part was my sore ribs, all were absolutely fine.

If not, there are options for a natural breech birth in some areas (depending of course on type of breech etc), or a planned c section is ultimately not the end of the world.

You'll be fine, hope you are able to get some rest and be calm in the meantime.

letallthechildrenboogie · 25/10/2018 14:44

One of my twins was transverse for the entire pregnancy and still got into a cephalic position in time for a normal vaginal delivery. Try not to worry too much at this stage. Easier said than done I know!

MindatWork · 25/10/2018 15:25

Thank you all for sharing your stories, it’s really nice to hear other people’s experiences.

I think it all got a bit much earlier this morning, feeling much calmer now 😊

Your baby has time to turn! DD2 was breech all the way through, failed ECV at 37w , so c section was booked for 39w. Amazing c section experience, preferred it over my natural with DD1! Baby is now 3 weeks old x

SuperstarDJ · 25/10/2018 20:01

Not sure what body part is under my ribs - bum or head - but it’s painful!

Those that had breech babies - did they have problems with their hips/require a harness?

LeeMiller · 25/10/2018 21:05

A friend was booked in for an ELCS last week (38 weeks) due to baby being breech - he turned while she was at the hospital waiting! Op cancelled. After weeks of trying to get him to turn to no avail she was gutted that she was sent home and is still waiting!

My baby is still breech at 34 weeks, I've decided against ECV so will just wait and see what happens.

Roseability18 · 25/10/2018 21:36

I had a section 3 wks ago for a breech baby. Like you had tried lots of ball bouncing and spinning babies but no success, and ECV was unsuccessful. I was initially sad not to experience a ‘natural’ birth but the section was a positive experience. The recovery has been much better than I expected - feel almost completely back to normal now, and was able to go on short walks etc after 5 days. Once baby was here, missing out on giving birth vaginally didn’t seem important, and my experience was a lot more positive than friends who have had failed inductions and emergency sections or nasty tears from delivery. Keep fingers crossed your little one turns but if they don’t it’s ok too!

Xenadog · 25/10/2018 22:44

My DD was breech and the hospital tried to book me in for an ECV. The day before the consultation to make the decision I read a thread on MN where a woman had the procedure and this led to a placenta abruption and her child died. This meant I asked the consultant lots of questIons including the success rate of an ECV at the hospital and who would be performing it.

The success rate was anything between 20% and 80% which I didn’t think was worth the risk and they couldn’t tell me who would do the procedure. I declined there and then and was booked in for my ELCS which was a perfect way for me give birth. I was happy knowing when I would meet my baby and it was reassuring knowing that I wasn’t going to try and give birth naturally and then be whisked off for a c-section anyway like so may of my friends did.

A midwife did suggest moxibustion (sp?) but I was happy to go for the c section.

Bowerbird5 · 25/10/2018 23:46

I had a baby in breech till about 37-38 weeks then turned,he was posterior birth he was 9lb 3 1/2 ozs and my first vaginal birth. DS1 was emergency CS. My sister who had a couple of home births was told she must have DC 4 in hospital went into labour with a transverse baby and she turned in the ambulance on the 35 mile journey to the hospital.
Good luck and at the end of the day the important thing is that baby and you are ok.

ballseditupforever · 26/10/2018 09:27

I turned just in time for labour!
