I'm now at week 32. Haven't had a drink all pregnancy and the past few weeks all I've wanted is a little glass of rose. My pregnancy is very straightforward, all checks good, baby good size, no complications whatsoever....please someone tell me I can treat myself before I start crying 😕

Of course you can have one!

Weetink · 20/10/2018 10:36

Should point out this is pregnancy number four, never had a drink while pregnant with any of the others and have all been healthy straightforward pregnancies.

Of course you can! I'm 17 weeks and have had a weak cider (1.3 units) and a small glass of wine in the past 5 weeks. I have no concerns about that small amount of alcohol doing any damage whatsoever.

Weetink · 20/10/2018 10:36

@Waitingonasmiley42 I need a friend like you lol

@SpadesOfGlory You can be in the gang too!

Of course you can. Having it with food is even better, it will be massively diluted.

flumpybear · 20/10/2018 10:38

Hell yes! I had one at 34 weeks as I was turning 40 that day! I actually didn't enjoy it 👀 unusual for me lol!

Weetink · 20/10/2018 10:38

It scares the life out of me. My mum is an alcoholic and I have that little voice in the back of my head asking why I can't hold off for just another few weeks....biggest fear is becoming my mother 😞

I had a little bottle of wine and soda a few times during my pregnancy. My dd is absolutely fine and I enjoyed every one of them!

PinkHeart5914 · 20/10/2018 10:41

If it scares the life out of you then don’t do it? Nobody “needs” wine

You didn’t drink in any other pregnancies so why this one?

Waitingonasmiley42 · 20/10/2018 10:41

Haha! Pregnancy can be shit enough without feeling guilty over a little wine at 32 weeks.

Not long until it's over now.

bippo · 20/10/2018 10:43

Of course you can! The fact that you're questioning it shows that you are very conscientious about why you want a drink. You're a human and want to have something you enjoy! I had a couple in both my pregnancies and like a PP said, didn't really enjoy the taste. I think I just missed holding the glass, pouring the wine and the lovely anticipation just before you drink it! Enjoy x

SpadesOfGlory · 20/10/2018 10:49

Haha, thanks @Weetink!

Tbh I loved a glass of wine before pregnancy but have actually got so used to not drinking it now I find a couple of sips is enough to satisfy. Didn't even finish that small glass even though I'd been dying for a cold white wine for a few weeks!

I've researched as much as I can and can't find any conclusive proof that very light occasional drinking will do any harm. But I obviously respect everyone's personal beliefs on that, and probably won't drink in public when I'm obviously pregnant as there's a lot of judgement about!

Swearymum83 · 20/10/2018 10:53

I had a couple of wines and the odd beer during my pregnancies and my kids are fine. Lol. Just have the glass of wine, almost 8 months of being on your best behaviour dealing with pregnancy is hard enough :-)

WooYa · 20/10/2018 10:54

I had a very weak wine and lemonade at a friends wedding and felt smashed 😂 you won't need anymore!

PerditaNitt · 20/10/2018 11:05

When I was pregnant, someone bought me a bottle of non-alcoholic rose that was quite nice (not shloer but more of a proper wine dupe); that might be an option if you decide that you aren’t comfortable with having alcohol (I know that this forum is going to throw out a pretty wide range of views on the topic!)

CharlotteFlax · 20/10/2018 11:28

During my last pregnancy (admittedly three years ago) my GP suggested it was fine to drink with food (and I had already told her I don't really drink too!)

The advice seems to change with every baby I've had but ultimately in your case I don't think you're going to suddenly turn into your mother and you should have a glass if you want one.

Weetink · 20/10/2018 11:28

I'm going to do it! (Anyone would think I was prepping to jump out a plane or something!)
I'll be so disappointed if I pour a glass, take a sip and realise I don't want it anymore!

The alcohol-free rosés are quite good. The alcohol free wines are generally quite sweet but that works alright for rosé.

Weetink · 23/10/2018 09:52

I had a tiny little glass, enjoyed it immensely!
