Hi all
I’ve chosen to have my baby at PRUH I have my 22 week scan in a months time and found out that they don’t offer a 36 week scan..
Has anybody else had their scans at this hospital?
Is it a problem if you don’t have a scan at 36 weeks?

They don't. I elected to have all my scans at kings cos they have better equipment. I was told they do enhanced scans. So I got a 36 week scan.

To be honest, it was not exciting. Baby was so crammed in, you couldn't see anything lol

I had a scan around that time but only because my bump suddenly got much bigger when the midwife measured me. Bump was measuring a bit small early on but then DD had a massive growth spurt and was 9 pound 4 when she finally put in an appearance at 42 weeks!

From what I remember, scan at 36 weeks was ok for me but DD obviously didn't like it and tried to wriggle away like a mad thing

I don't think that's what parents will be concerned about. I think the reduction of stillbirth will be a little higher on their agenda.

Professor Nicolaides is the top bod at Kings I believe. He's probably the most well known fetal medicine specialist in the country (I believe it was his research that established the nuchal screening).

His research also suggests the 36 week scan is beneficial in reducing the rate of still birth, mainly as I understand it because it identifies blood flow issues in the cord. For that reason it needs to be a Doppler scan. Since they introduced the further scan at King's stillbirth rates dropped quite dramatically.

I had a scan at 36 weeks in my last pregnancy due to growth concerns. I'm high risk in this pregnancy again so will see what they offer but if a 36 week Doppler scan isn't offered I will pay for one.

Professor Nicolaides runs a not for profit private clinic on Harley Street called the Fetal Medicine Centre and they can do the Doppler scan there if needs be.

Thank you for all your replies ladies, I do wish I’d chosen to continue to have my scans at Kings but I guess if there does seem to be any problems they would scan anyway. I was told I have a low risk pregnancy which does reaussure me.
