... and I’m horrified! And bawling and sappy. I’m only 14 weeks but at 39 you’d think I’d have more of a clue about what I’m going to go through!

For me, ignorance is bliss when it comes to child birth. Lol!

DrWhy · 19/10/2018 08:15

YouTube some nice hypnobirthing videos instead! It can be absolutely fine!

Mummab3ar · 19/10/2018 08:17

Hahaha, I was addicted to it when I was pregnant with DS1, but funnily enough I think it prepared me for the worst. When I went into labour it only took me 1hr 30mins to meet my baby boy Smile!

I think because I was expecting it to be as gruesome as some of those women on One born every minute, I actually ended up pleasantly surprised and had a really good birth.

OBEM bore no relation to any of the births experienced by me and my antenatal group. It's sensationalist and heavily edited. Avoid in future.

chloechloe · 19/10/2018 08:46

If you’re the anxious type you should really avoid watching it as it’s edited to be overly dramatic. Having said that I binge watched it on mat leave with my first but I’m not the type to worry and took it with a pinch of salt.

Like a PP has said - google hypnobirthing or positive birth stories instead!

mumofmunchkin · 19/10/2018 08:56

It's overly dramatic, and really doesn't reflect the experience of childbirth.

sparkles212 · 19/10/2018 08:59

To be honest I thought they were wimps on there and it was semi staged until I gave birth myself. Not the screaming bit when they're actually delivering - pushing the baby out wasn't the bad bit for me and I was cut but the contractions at the stage I wanted to start pushing - bloody hell!! I think I was hanging head first off the bed with all my modesty gone crying and saying I can't do this...cant really remember much else lol

It is a show created to show drama as much as poss though as they want the viewers.

kmreeve · 19/10/2018 09:05

Yeah don't watch this.. it's a drama programme at the end of the day and is meant to keep you in suspense. YouTube has lovely home videos of positive birth experiences- they will fill you with so much joy!

That being said, I'm not a ftm and do watch OBEM but I know it's all suspense and drama, edge of your seat etc.

I gave birth in the dark on all fours.. won't see that on obem

NothingisForgotten · 19/10/2018 09:12

Lol its good to hear some nice stories - I think I'll wait a few months before watching any more birth videos though!

I watched it obsessively with my first pregnancy and bawled my eyes out every time.... Ahh happy days Smile

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 19/10/2018 09:17

I loved it with my pregnancies but haven't ever watched it when not pregnant. Actually that's a lie, I was allowed a quick discharge with dc5 (a compromise because I was high risk so couldn't have a hb). I watched it when I got home, baby was about 7 hours old. It wasn't a wise move I was blubbering & felt every contraction.

firsttimebabybirther · 19/10/2018 09:18

Watching that is the worst thing you could do to yourself OP , a nice calm birth doesn't make good TV but what does make good tv is the dramatic music, the screaming , the buzzer being rang and 3 thousand nurses running in.
Honestly , it's never usually anything like that!

YouTube positive birth stories , they always made me weep with happiness
