Has anyone successfully overcome the mountain that is brushing your teeth when you have bad pregnancy sickness (week 18 and still struggling)... I have tried a different toothpaste, not going to the back of my mouth, smiling to trick the gag reflex, standing on one foot(!) etc...where I'm being sick and/or retching quite a lot I'm worried about not being able to brush my teeth as much and the effect of the acid. :(

Lol so glad it isnt just me! I actually went to the dentist and asked her about it, she said it was super normal and she had it during her own pregnancies as well. She gave me these small sticks woth brushes at the end, i use these to clean my back teetch instead of my toothbrush - really helps actually.

Oh i suffered from this too with DS! And after being sick all you bloody wanna do is brush your teeth. Sorry no advice though. Keenly watching though as hopefully should be pregnant soon with #2

Nothing to suggest, just here to offer solidarity.

I'm almost 17wks now and the sickness has pretty much gone but brushing my teeth still makes me gag. I've also lost my ability to take tablets, used to be able to take multiple at once (long term health stuff), but now I gag if I try more than one and sometimes even just on one. Very frustrating.

I brushed without toothpaste. And in the shower cos at least any retching/spitting didn’t sound/feel so bad.

21 weeks and still find brushing my teeth a massive trigger. Even just picking up by toothbrush does it! I found brushing in the evening when I haven't eaten in a few hours helps. As well as not trying to brush for too long. Some days I can manage 10 seconds others not at all. Mouthwash makes me sick too but not as bad so that has been my go to as well as those chewy toothbrush balls you generally get in service stations. My dentist just told me not to worry about it too much.

Didn't fully get rid of this but found using an electric toothbrush made it a million times worse so went back a normal one!

19 weeks here 👋🏻 and still a struggling!!!

Worst experience was throwing up a pack of hula hoops whilst trying to brush my teeth... Was bloody awful!

I don't know if it will let will be much help to you guys, BUT.....I did find that the kids flavoured toothpaste worked a treat for me... Started using it about a month ago! Still suffer from the odd bout of sickness/gagging but I'm able to brush my teeth properly again....

I've got the hygienist next week and a check up... 😳😬 Wish me luck 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄😂🤰🏻

My DS is nearly 17yo and I still get this - never an issue before I was pregnant!

Yes! Google told me to try a toddler’s toothbrush (tiny ones!) and it made it about 90% better. Also not looking in the mirror helped for some reason (again, thanks Google) and I often brushed my teeth in the dark.
