Women who have been induced?

Hi everyone.

I was hoping if I could have some advice from those of you that have been induced? I’m booked to be induced at 41 weeks due to medical reasons. I’ve had a look at a few health websites on the internet, however I would prefer to hear from ladies with their stories.

The only question that I do have, do you have to stay an extra 24 hours if you have an epidural? I’m not overly bothered if I’m required to stay longer, I’m being curious Smile

I was up and walking about the morning after my epidural but as I had a catheter in (needed emergency section after induction) that needed to be in 24 hours, followed by a scan to make sure it had been removed correctly another 12 hours after that.

Good luck!

I was booked in and given the pessary about 6pm on night 1, baby born (had epidural) dinner time day 2 and we went home late evening on day 3

Probably bit different as I was induced due to waters having broken pre term and I had contracted sepsis so wanted to get this us going quicker but anyway...

Took them bloody ages and a ton of different tries and doses before they got the induction working. Only way it seemed it would work was to have the drip on full wack and so had 0 rest from contractions.

Ended up with epidural which didn't work properly (so be prepared for that). I was up and walking about an hour after giving birth but then again epidural didn't work fully so might have made a difference.

Good luck OP Flowers

I was induced with both mine and had an epidural with both.
1st born at half ten in the morning, home at 4pm the same day.
2nd was more tricky a birth, so 5:20am birth and home 24hrs later.
I can't compare to spontaneous labour but it seemed to go from fine, to hell fire, I need an epidural. Funnily enough, that occured at about 6cms for both babies.
Hope all goes well for you

My induction was fine, and the easiest and quickest of all 3 births.

Was induced at 41+5, my waters broke at 8pm, contractions started at 11pm, ds2 was born at 4am and I was home by lunchtime.

I didn’t want an epidural as I heard there is a higher percentage of having to have an assisted birth if you do but I do remember being told you have to stay in longer if you have one

Not every induction leads to an epidural or instrumental delivery.

From pessary to birth took 9 hours 58 minutes. I had one pessary in which was removed after 90 minutes due to too many contractions. I was active during my labour apart from when I was monitored. Baby's head wasn't engaged before they started either.

Asking around I am not rare in not needing an epidural after being induced.

I was induced for 3 days via x2 pessaries and gel- didn't work at all and baby had lots of excess fluid around her, so I had an extremely calm and planned c-section - all in all it went very well and DD is snoozing on my chest :) No matter what, they'll get baby out! Take lots of snacks and things to do as the induction process can take a while! Good luck and congratulations!

I was induced due to my waters going and Labor not starting after 24 hours. I had a pessary at 12pm, laid down for half an hour for it to settle, got up for a walk of the hospital, had a baby in my arms by 17.35. No other interventions and just a tens machine and gas and air.

DC1 - induction started Sunday evening, waters broke spontaneously Monday lunchtime, baby arrived early hours Tuesday morning. Needed epidural/forceps. Home by Thursday evening but only because I needed a blood transfusion otherwise I would have been home on Wednesday.

DC2 - induction started Thursday evening, waters were broken for me on Friday night, baby arrived early Saturday morning. Needed EMCS due to facial presentation. Home by Sunday evening.

Fairly "eventful" births in the grand scheme of things but easy recoveries both times.

I didn't particularly want to be induced but accepted that that's what was going to happen and it was fine.

I was booked for induction at 38 weeks, I had two rounds with 24 hours in between and never got passed 2cm dilated.

I went for a c section on day 4 and was put by 2pm on day 5. I found the induction awful and was ready to walk out by the end of the second round until a consultant convinced me to stay. I did hear it working for lots of other women though

Grumpos · 18/10/2018 15:16

Had an induction due to waters going and no contractions following, I ended up with an epidural but was up and walking around unaided within hours.
I wasn’t discharged due to baby being unwell but none of the other ladies with inductions and epidurals i spoke to had to stay extra time, they were discharged once they were deemed fit and baby was feeding ok.
Good luck!

Started induction on Friday afternoon, spent Saturday in agony and was only 1cm dilated. By Sunday morning pain was gone, baby hadn't budged still 1cm. Given options of more pessaries, a clip or section. Had epidural and section that evening. Was up and about the next morning - but didn't leave hosp until Tuesday evening after basically begging to go home. My nerves were shot and my son would just cry all night in the ward, needed hubby or my mum for support Blush
