Has anybody have the CVS test?

I found out yesterday that I'll likely need to have a CVS test at 10-12 weeks due to a genetic disorder I have which is fatal to boys. So they'll need to test if I have passed it on.

I'm just wondering if anybody has had one? I've been researching it all night and I'm worried about the risk of miscarriage!

There's also the option of the amnio, but the CVS can be done sooner.

Given my condition is gender linked, is it possible through CVS or amnio to determine gender, too? Or would I then be left until 15-16 weeks, if it does have the condition, to find out whether the poor little mite is a boy?

Yes i have had 3 CVS tests. I carry a genetic condtion that effects both boys and girls. 1 in 4 chance in each pregnancy. My oldest son has the condtion. Currently 34 weeks pregnant and have 2 other healthy children and this baby is not affected.

I was worried about miscarriage but it's a very small chance take it easy after, it's nit a pleasant test to have done but it doesn't hurt. I decided to just not look at all.

Thank you everybody for the continued responses. It's making me feel much better about it all.

After finding out about the NIPD blood test, it may be that that is sufficient enough if it turns out to be a girl. Obviously if I then find out it's a boy, I'd definitely need the CVS, but there's a chance I won't.

Fingers crossed ❤️

I had CVS testing, it hurt more than they said it would, they had to go in twice to get enough out. 😖

We had it done because of a genetic condition my husband has. You can elect to have the sex checked for £60, but considering the condition they're checking is related to the baby's sex then I would hope they wouldn't charge you.

I have had a CVS and an amnio. Neither is nice, amnio looked like a bigger needle. Sooner you get the info the better in my opinion. They clearly haven't expained them very well, they will BOTH tell you the gender, that's a given. The statistics on miscarriage are misleading though. It really, really depends on the person who does the test, they have their own personal stats really.

Sorry, meant to say good luck. Hope it's a girl!

Could you have the harmony? I know it's expensive but they can tell you the sex of the baby from a blood test at about 10 weeks, then if it's a girl you won't need the CVS x

I had it with both my dds as had one in ten chance of a genetic disorder. I didn't find it painful at all. Had mine done at St Georges in London with this chap www.stgeorges.nhs.uk/people/professor-basky-thilaganathan/

I just wanted to come back and say thank you ladies for all of your advice and guidance on this one. They dated me this morning at exactly six weeks, but they want to do another scan next week to make sure. I've been referred to a hospital that specialises in genetic conditions who will carry out the CVS test is about another six weeks. There was no mention of the NIPT/NIPD today but that was only with the sonographer, so I guess she was only speculating about what will happen next.

I spoke to my mum about it and she miscarried at 9 weeks when she passed the condition on to the child prior to me, so I will mention this next week in case they want to do regular scans. Mum had to have fortnightly scans.
