Pelvic Girdle Pain help!

I am 36 weeks pregnant. Have had pain for weeks, probably about 2 months.
Started in right leg/bum/back. Last week spread across all of lower back. Today predominantly in left bum/leg.
Ranges from constant discomfort to sharp pains which make me cry.
Saw physio few weeks ago. Said they couldn't do anything and suggested self-care - all of which I'm already doing (massage, baths, pillows between legs for sleeping etc).
I feel so awful today I'm not sure how I can go on for another few weeks. I'm having an elective section due to complications with 1st pregnancy which resulted in emcs. I cried when I got date as it's only a couple days shy of 40 weeks and I hoped they'd do it at 39.
I'm just so weary of being in pain. Of being unable to walk at times. I feel like such a crap mum to my DS (5) because I'm so limited in what I can do with him.
It doesn't seem to make any difference if I move a lot or a little - doesn't seem to impact how much pain/discomfort I can be in.
Help me to survive next three and s bit weeks - what can I do?

Check with your midwife but you can take pain killers. Near the end my consultant gave me co-codimal (spelling) and I was on crutches from about 4 months.

Heat pads helped as did acupuncture which my physio did for me. Also a bump belt helped a bit but on the whole I was pretty miserable (sorry)

Giving up driving helped a bit and just resting lots. I found once I accepted that I couldn't do much and that was it for the next few months things got a bit easier as I wasn't fighting the mental battle of thinking I should be doing more than i could.

Accepting help from friends and family also really help.

Hiya OP. I'm 34 weeks and in the same boat. I've been at physio since 18 weeks and on crutches since 28 weeks. It's an absolute killer and nobody quite seems to understand how painful it truly is. I've got no more advice for you, other than literally try to do nothing wherever possible. Your DS will forgive you. I've got a 4 year old and I feel awful on her but she understands mummy's got poorly legs.

It's properly shit, but try to make yourself a pillow nest supporting yourself in all the necessary places, get yourself some 30mg co-codamol from your GP, and just rest. Almost there Thanks

Thanks for responses. I'll contact midwife tomorrow to ask about next steps. Takes so long to see physio I may have had baby before I can get another appointment!

The massage balls with the spikes on are pretty good. I have one and my boyfriend rolls it on my back and bum before I go to bed every night and it seems to ease the pain. You can get them on amazon pretty cheap. Hot water bottles also helps to relax the area.

If its any consellation, I couldnt walk for the last 4 weeks so was cabin fevered to the max! No physio as longer to get seen than to just have the baby - But as soon as he was born the pain went and I wasnt walking like john wayne anymore Grin

Any menthol rub really helped me, tiger balm, vicks vapour rub, headache stick thing and just plenty of rest. But ask re pain relief, as pp has said options tend to be wider at your point. Good luck you will make it!

Hi. I'm only 28 weeks but have been suffering worsening pain since week 20. Physio said the same thing to me, the usual stuff like watch how you are getting up and bending over etc. And the dr said all they were able to do was recommend paracetamol.

After ending up in tears one night after work as I couldn't make it up the stairs to bed I asked around and my friend said she went to a chiropractor that had experience working with pregnant woman. I had an initial consultation which was worth every penny of the £75 it cost! She was amazing. She worked on my back and pelvis for about 20mins and honestly I stood up with little to no pain. The last week I have had a little pain here and there but nothing near as bad as it was! And I also bought a pregnancy belt which has also helped a lot.

Just make sure you find someone who specialises in pregnancy if you decide to go down the chiropractor route

I'm only 24 weeks but suffering - as people above say try a chiropractor who specialises in it as they can do some gentle manipulation. I found baths helpful. My physio recommended swimming/aqua natal - just got in from my first session, was amazing feeling weightless in the pool - maybe go just for a bit of relief

bumblebee39 · 16/10/2018 02:47

DC1 I struggled on just paracetamol
DC2 I was prescribed co-codomol but advised not to take it every day as it could cause addiction

Tadda · 16/10/2018 06:49

Me too with all of my DC (currently 28 wks with No 4 and it's just started to twinge out on my right side) - Physio gave me some great 're-alignment' exercises last time which I've been trying to keep up with and seems to have helped (I was in agony from around 19 weeks last time, induced at 38 wks because of it) - time number two was admitted to hospital for 2 weeks and put on Tramadol, which seriously don't recommend -

A 'bump' belt really helped me last time - my dd has just turned 1 and I am just starting to use again

caoraich · 16/10/2018 07:00

Oh I feel your pain! I've had similar but maternity physio gave me a belt to wear plus a long tubigrip to wear underneath it. I'm 40 weeks now and it has helped. My belt is a "low back" one that sits mainly under the bump and supports my back but holds the bump up from the bottom too. The most similar thing I can find online is here www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/maternity-supportbelt-b4761.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjw9ZDeBRD9ARIsAMbAmoZBUaEq11W4hGs9hVXceXHMquJOiUOQnkBN2YxKA4RyJ1G-oOkNTEAaAsV7EALw_wcB
Just hoping the pain goes when baby gets here!!

Crabbitstick · 17/10/2018 18:31

Thanks for sharing.
Spoke with midwife who was sympathetic but basically said I
need to grit teeth and get through next few weeks.
I'm going back to see physio next week.
For those who had natural births did the pain impact your ability to labour? If I go naturally before section date want to know if it's realistic to be able to have baby myself or whether this pain plus labour pain is going to be too much.

OP posts:
SlB09 · 17/10/2018 19:46

No impact at all on my labour x

Tadda · 17/10/2018 19:53

It did impact all of mine OP - But it does depend on your own level of pain (if that makes sense) -

I also have a very backwards facing cervix so tilting my hips was horrendous - I would recommend an epidural if you do go the natural route -

I've got an obstetrician appointment tomorrow to discuss a birth plan, but have other complications (Placenta Previa etc) so It may just be a plan for c-section anyway - didn't really want to ever have one but suppose you've just got to plan for the best, then see what happens!!?
