Been given metformin at 34+4

Been given metformin today at 34+4 and although I was abit skeptical at accepting it as I was scared it may drop my sugar levels dangerously low, midwife said it wouldn’t. I had GD in my last pregnancy but was diet controlled and this time it’s a different hospital and they rather me take medication. Anyone else on this? Side effects?
I’m probably just being extra cautious, doctors know what’s best at the end of the day Confused

So are you not able to control with diet this time?

Hiya I'm on metformin and insulin at 33+5. Assuming you're on a low dose (I'm on 2× 500mg) then you shouldn't get lows. Your body is still regulating itself, just not as effectively as before. Try not to worry but do keep checking your blood sugars to be sure (and have sugary things around you if you need them).

Having said that I'm not a health professional so seek informed advice if you need it!!

Results are pretty much the same with when I was pregnant with my first, morning reading was always 6.0-6.5 then and the same now. Difference is the other hospital never put me on medication and this hospital say it’s better for me & the baby to have the medication. Just don’t understand why I was never put on it before Confused

orange thank you for your reply. I have also been prescribed 2x500mg per day. Will start taking it tonight after my evening meal. Good luck with your pregnancy x

I'm struggling to get my fasting reading down (

HerSymphonyAndSong · 15/10/2018 19:06

Ah that is higher than ideal for fasting. I’m surprised your previous hospital weren’t more concerned too, but clearly fortunately things turned out ok
