34 week MW appt. ...confused...

Turns out this was the last time I have to go to see them before 40 weeks. The next appt is at 36, when they'll come to me to discuss the homebirth and presumably measure me. Then they want me to see my GP at weeks 38 and 39. I don't know why, I only ever saw my GP when I was first pg to get referred. He didn't even test me but he did suggest I go to A&E (since I was bleeding) and he'd refer me if I was still pregnant the following week. Thanks.

The mw was the same one who came to my house originally. He encouraged me then to have a homebirth and when I asked if my age (41) would make me high risk, he completely reassurred me - apparently "everyone" is doing it now.

Except today he had forgotten me and what I was planning. He was still positive but mentioned that they hardly ever get homebirths and there might not be any CMW to cover it since they don't really work nights. WHAT?

So does that mean I'm going to get one of the mean mws from the hospital? What's the point then? And what happened to "everybody's doing it"???

Also, I've only had my urine checked once, this entire pg. Is that because I don't have swollen ankles?

On the bright side, the measurements were good and she's LOA where I assume she'll remain since I'm sure she's been that way for weeks. I've been in mortal fear of homebirthing an OP baby.

Anyway, does this all sound normal to everyone? Am I just worried bc I have nothing to worry about???

ok

legally, you are entitled to a home birth and your PCT has a duty to make sure there are midwives to attend...remind him of your origional conversation if necessary !if your CMW is on call, she is on call, and must come to you

you should have your urine checked regularly and your BP as they can pick up on signs of preeclampsia, which can be serious..also, tests for sugar, so bit surprised only been done once

excellent news re LOA ...prime position for birth.....so that is marvellous

try not to worry, and clarify with MW about the homebirth

see your GP if only to get wee & BP checked

HTH x

Thanks, will do. Don't know what to do with myself if I'm not worried about something!

second link from bottom on left hand side

Be prepared for the worst, but expect the best, hope all goes well for you!

Thanks for the link. I didn't really get the impression they were saying no to the HB but rather I would be attended by hospital mws instead of the lovely cmws as I'd been hoping.

Either way, I'll have my doula with me so I feel like I'm doing everything I can to ensure I at least get to TRY my way.

Thanks again for the support!

Ask your midwives why you need to see your GP. Midwives are the lead professionals for low risk women. You should have had your urine tested at every visit. Did you take specimens with you?

There should be oncall midwives for planned homebirths.

As a midwife, I am confused as well. Give your community midwife a call and ask.

Hi Mears,

I didn't take a urine specimin each time but I can always pee on demand! I asked each time, however, and they always say "not this time."

I'm going to call. Thanks!
