Induction what to wear?

Hi there,

I expect I'll be monitored continuously with those bands so I need something that's buttoned in some way. I saw something I loved but you can't get it in a size 20/22 😭😭😭

Any ideas?

I just wore some maternity joggers and a top. Chances are the first stage will last some time and you will want to walk and get out and about between monitoring, anything you can pull down for the belly bands is fine. I changed into a gown, at the staff's request, once they started the drip.

My friend told me she spent the first 48-72 hours with a pessary in waiting for her cervix to ripen before they started any hormone infusions/monitoring. Do you have an idea of your hospital's policy? Doubt you want to be in the same top for 3 days....

Also, some places have wireless monitoring so you may not need the bands anyways

Foggymist · 11/10/2018 15:55

I'd just wear loose pj bottoms and a loose t-shirt.

CoperCabana · 11/10/2018 15:56

I really wouldn’t buy something new to be induced.

I got a cheap button up nightie from primark a few sizes bigger than my usual size. Meant I could wear it oVer the monitoring bands, it was nice and loose and comfy and if it got wrecked I wouldn't mind!

I actually still wear it and being button front it's perfect for night time breastfeeds!

Fieau · 11/10/2018 15:59

Oh and good luck with your induction Flowers

I wore a stretchy maternity night dress that I bought secondhand on ebay , I had maternity leggings on underneath for when I was up and about.

The night dress was only about £4 and I threw it away immediately after!

Good luck with your induction. Do come back and give us an update if you have time Smile

I think you're right Foggymist and CountessVonBoobs* I will defo need something I can get off the ward in for the first stage. It'll be december and I have some great fluffy joggers and maternity t-shirts and jumper so that'll be fine. I defo want a gown for the pushing stage though.

I had a stay on the induction ward this summer due to a pregnancy complication and people seemed to be on monitoring with bands pretty much straight away. Some progressed relatively quickly but others were defo around for days. They all had bands! The noise for me was unbearable! Wont be forgetting my ear plugs that's for sure.

Thanks Fieau I've been looking everywhere for something like that but can't find them anywhere!!!

I don't own anything I'd be happy to get ruined CoperCabana. That's why I'm looking for something practical and cheap.

Once monitoring is continuous, you're best off just wearing a hospital gown anyway IMO - you can ruin that all you like but they'll give you another and it allows them to access everything they need to - for instance if you go on the drip and want an epidural they will need a BP monitor round your arm and access to your back.

Monitoring is usually sporadic (an hour every 4-6hours or so) unless either labour is well underway or you are put on the syntocin drip, and you could be there a good 2-3 days before labour is established.

peachesarenom · 11/10/2018 16:19

Gosh CountessVonBoobs I really rather not be there for 2or 3 days! Had enough last time! I know what you mean though. I'll have to give this some more thought. I didn't know that they'd give me a hospital gown. That is actually really helpful!

I just wore pjs/nighty whilst waiting for the pessary to do its job (which it didn't) and then before they broke my waters they made me put on a hospital gown. They wouldn't even let me wear a bra or anything underneath which was really annoying cos I really hate not wearing a bra!!

peachesarenom · 11/10/2018 16:47

PeanutButterAndJamOnToast I'm gonna hate not wearing a bra!!!
