I don't know when would be the best time to book in for my first MW appointment I'm currently only 3 weeks and 6 days(I think Confused) and didn't know if to wait until I'm at least 5-6 weeks before I book in what would people suggest??

Probably best to wait a few weeks.

6 weeks is probably a good bench mark, 4 weeks is very early on in pregnancy.

Chances are they won’t give you your booking in appointment with the midwife until around 10 weeks, I was closer to 12 when mine came through and had the first scan a few days after, at least if you wait before you phone it feels like a little less of a gap until you are seen Grin

When you phone they will ask for dates of your last period and book your first appointment for an appropriate time, they will probably tell you they will send a letter with your appointment on it.

I'd ring anyway, as they won't see you until 8-9 weeks regardless of when you phone.

I went to the doctors as soon as I could I think by the time I got an appointment I was 4 weeks 5 days. I have my booking appointment with the midwife today at 7 weeks.
I would get yourself to your doctor's as soon as possible and get your first appointment with a midwife booked in which should be around 7-8 weeks. It will also make it easier getting time off work if needed as you have more notice.

Hi Holly257 Smile

Have you had an appointment with your doctor to let them know your pregnant? They should then arrange for you to see a midwife after they have sat down with you and discussed how you feel about your pregnancy (well that’s what mine did anyway)
I would do it sooner rather than later though hun then you can get an accurate gestation age and due date for your baby Smile I was extremely late finding out I was pregnant (20 weeks Shock ) and ive had to have monthly growth scans and be monitored to make sure my little girl is ok. One day to go though Smile

Hope this helps and good luck x Flowers x

I would ring your doctors and ask what the procedure is in your area then they can tell you whether you need to self refer, book with them etc. I left it until 5 weeks to book the appointment but then couldn't get one until I was nearly 11 weeks.

In our area you self refer to the midwife. Whenever you ring them, they will make your booking in appointment for when you are around 8-10 weeks.

Thanks everyone I may ring tomorrow or Monday and try to get an appointment to see the doctor I did see one the other day (not my usual doctor) and he was a very arrogant man!! Didn't help me even in the slightest but that's another story Smile he never said about me booking in with the midwife either Confused

Ring your surgery and ask the procedure. Some you need to see your GP and some you can self refer.

There's no way you need to be booked in yet, it's too early. Wait until you're around 6/7 weeks.
