I’m 25+4 and obviously following the advice to sleep on my side at night.
I’m struggling though as my hips ache so much from lying on them constantly. I do switch sides when it becomes unbearable.

Is there any advice to alleviate it?

I try and put a pillow between my knees but I actually think that makes it worse.

No advice but watching as suffering with the same thing badly today on my left side!

I saw physio about similar today. Basically your ligaments are loose so things move around more than they should. Their advice was to ALWAYS be symmetrical and ALWAYS be supported. So you need at least 2 pillows between your legs (or as many as it takes to make your knees AND ankles parallel to your hips). This will help a little - other tips are folded duvet under your base sheet for more cushioning and I have invested in a very(!) sexy granny satin nightie which helps me roll over in bed more easily!

I've had the same thing and been going to physio. I found a hot water bottle on the hip can help before bed. It seems to soothe it before going to sleep. They also gave me a massage ball. It's the size of a tennis ball with spikes on it and you roll it around the area that is hurting. It feels really nice. If you can't find one she said a regular tennis ball can also help.

As annoying as it probably sounds they keep telling me to do pelvic floor exercises to strengthen the muscles around the pelvis. This will help the ligaments not move around and rub. They haven't recommended a pelvic belt because that can make your muscles lazy because it is doing the job for them. I've been doing these and I am definitely seeing an improvement. I would recommend giving them a try.

Fingers crossed it does not last all the way through.

Suffering through the same thing so commenting mainly to watch! I've just been referred to physio by my doctor and I'm booked in soon for a prenatal massage to see if it helps at all. I've been using a hot water bottle which only offers mild relief but the pain is still excruciating some days Sad Referring to the previous comment saying about the spiky ball things, does anyone reckon dryer balls would help?! I might try it later!

I was suffering with this, but it's got better since I folded up a duvet and put it on top of my mattress topper and lie on that.

I could have written this post. Following for tips x

I’ve found different mattresses to be better than others - one of our spare rooms has a really soft matress which is hellish, our bed is OK and the firm one is much better. Assuming you don’t have the option to play musical beds (we choose a house to fit our planned family so it’s not full yet!) could you try some other way to make the mattresses firmer or more supportive? Not sure what.... firm mattress topper or something?

loveskaka · 10/10/2018 20:44

It's just ur hips widening for bubba. Sleep with a pillow in between your knees to help take the pressure off your hips x

I've never seen a dryer ball but I would have thought if it is firm then it would have the same effect. The one I have is quite firm. You can also get them on Amazon found around £7. I've attached a picture of one.

Another thing they mentioned was trying to strengthen the glute muscles. You can do this by stepping up and down on your steps at home on the same leg maybe around 10 times. It will help give you more stability. I just do this on the bottom step, if you start to wobble you don't want to be all the way at the top.

Thanks. Went and bought myself this pillow earlier today so will see if it helps.

I do have 2 spare rooms to choose from but mattresses are all the same!

Had a bath which has eased the aches somewhat.

Good luck with the pillow, a friend gave me the dream genie and I found it the most annoying thing ever! I kept getting stuck in it and hurting myself more trying to get untangled! It was nicknamed the pillow python and banished until the baby was born when it actually became an amazingly useful feeding pillow because I could put it in different shapes for different positions.

Support pillows are great... ... Until you need to move Grin

For those of you who received physio, did you receive this on the NHS? Or did you fund this yourselves?

cw96 · 11/10/2018 01:05

I'll be receiving physio from the NHS as I was referred from my doctors surgery

katie23913 · 11/10/2018 01:26

I got some on nhs but it was useless. It was a classroom education session with around 8 other people. Luckily I get some private health through my work which I have claimed on. It's been a lot better than the nhs. It's actual one on one treatment. It may be different though on nhs depending on where you live. It was because the waiting lists were so long near me they get you in groups.
