Carrycot mattress

I've got a fab deal on a second hand pram. I've been told to get a new carrycot mattress for safer sleep, but do I need a new waterproof mattress cover? The carrycot itself was very rarely used so the cover is spotless (and I've washed it just to be safe...) xx

I didn't because the mattress was washable.

Anything that can go in a washing machine does not need to be replaced.

I don't think you need to buy a new carrycot mattress for the pram...? That's crazy surely?

Only a brand new mattress for where baby sleeps at night to reduce risk of SIDS.

Thank you. It's a carrycot approved for overnight sleep so we're planning to use for daytime instead of a Moses basket...does that make a difference? Reckon the baby will be sleeping quite frequently in it.

We bought a new carrycot mattress from a made to order store on eBay, it cost about £13.

I would (and did) buy a new carrycot mattress for a secondhand pram. Cheap online, as pp said.

Thank you, mine looks to cost £30. Did you also purchase a new cover? I've washed the 'waterproof' soft cover and it seems fresh though has a bit of a plastic odour as if it hasn't been used.

I'm afraid I can't remember (this was a few years back) but the new mattress was wipeable, I think, so perhaps it had a waterproof cover. Sorry, not v helpful!
