Tea tree oil / witchhazel

Hey all,

I've been looking through some posts about spritz for bits, which seems a little pricey. I was wondering if I could make a spray from tea tree oil and witch hazel and water? I don't know what the proportions are (any ideas?) but know other women use this stuff after the birth and seem happy with it. Is it as good as spritz for bits? Does anyone have any pointers?!

Thanks!

I don't know about making my own mixture maybe someone else will.

But the midwife on my maternity ward gave me a little bottle of pure witch hazel and it was amazing!! I really didn't need anything else. I've recommended friends to get it and they've all loved it. Many swear by tea tree in the bath but I didn't even need it. Wouldn't hurt to have some either!

I soaked medical gauze with the witch hazel and stuck it down below on my stitches.

Also there's witch hazel in Preparation H - it might be handy to have a tube of it and the Preparation H wipes in case of constipation.

What did you do with the pure witch hazel? I don't know what to so with these things!

I will definitely look into the Preparation H products, thanks!

You can get these handy in any chemist. Pour the witch hazel onto a square and put the gauze directly on your sore bits down below. Or on top of your pad as long as it's cooling down where you feel sore.

I've been told to put a spoonful or so of witch hazel on a sanitary towel and wear that. I've also been told its soothing if you put the sanitary towel in the freezer too!

Look at Sitz baths too. More popular in America but can put them on loo to sit and good for soaking....

Liland · 09/10/2018 20:55

Amazing, thank you. How long do you leave the gauze on before changing it? Do you have a new one in constantly for the first few days/weeks while you heal?

Tucks Witch Hazel pads are amazing. You put them on top a normal maternity pad as they're not absorbant on their own but they are really soothing. Alternatively I was advised to put some witch hazel on a maternity pad and pop it in the freezer.

Angelmiracle · 09/10/2018 21:01

Yeah definitely couple of times a day at the start!!

I did not know they had witch hazel pads 😂

Liland · 09/10/2018 21:08

Thanks so much for the help :)

As others say, witch hazel on a pad, rewrap and pop into freezer. Been told this is an essential recovery tool so will be stocking my freezer up!

And a few drops of witch hazel, tea tree and lavender into the bath is meant to be good too
