Baby sleeping in the bedroom??

Yorkymidge · 07/10/2018 08:56

Hi,
For many reasons, i want my baby to sleep in my bedroom with me however i’ve got a space problem!
I have fitted furniture so a cot or even a co-sleeping crib wont fit in my room. The only thing that WILL fit (i’ve tested measurements) is a moses basket and i didn’t want one of those as babies outgrow them so quickly and they’re so expensive! My friends/families babies have only lasted a maximum of 3 months and it’s a lot of money to waste if the baby wont fit/settle in one. My only other option i feel is the carry cot part from my pram - flip xt2. However, i don’t think there’s a stand for this or that it’s built for sleeping long term? I’m so confused.
Has anyone got any advice or other options?

Thanks

Can you put a single mattress in the nursery instead?

putputput · 07/10/2018 09:00

Second hand Moses baskets are dirt cheap/free .
Or you could research safe co-sleeping.

dementedpixie · 07/10/2018 09:00

Can you fit anything at the end of your bed? Our cot didn't fit at the side of the bed but did fit along the bottom of it. Travel cot with bassinet? Swinging crib?

BillywilliamV · 07/10/2018 09:03

Second hand Moses baskets always available in our Children's Society Shop or Ebay, or dont the Scandinavians put their babies in strong cardboard boxes? Would be nervous about co-sleeping with Tiny baby.

I have the Flip XT too, and the carrycot part isn't much smaller (if at all?) than a standard moses basket. Our daughter slept in her moses basket for 6 months and she isn't tiny (7lbs 3oz at birth and fairly leggy!) If you're on Facebook I'm sure you'd be able to pick up a second hand moses basket cheaply, you'd just need a new mattress.

We had this issue. We put DS in the nursery, which was the other side of the wall, and kept the doors to both rooms open.

olderthanyouthink · 07/10/2018 09:13

SnuzPod? They look narrower than other bedside cots and in theory last 6months

SylvanianFrenemies · 07/10/2018 09:29

I have to say I loved my Moses basket (and all going according to plan will be dusting it down again in 7 months!). My babies were in Moses baskets til 6 months.

Get a second hand Moses basket. New mattress. Move to co sleeping once baby outgrows the basket.

LBNM19 · 07/10/2018 09:49

I'd get the moses basket. Your baby should be with year for the 1st year to reduce the risk of SIDs. There is no way I could fall asleep with my newborn in a separate room.

StompyDino · 07/10/2018 09:53

4.5m old is still in Moses basket in the daytime and I paid £30 for it new including the stand - definitely don’t regret buying it Smile

userabcname · 07/10/2018 09:56

We got our moses basket in an Aldi baby event and it was about £15 I think with the stand around £7. DS did outgrow it quickly as he was a chunk (91st centile).

trevthecat · 07/10/2018 09:57

Have a look at the baby box co. Like a card board box for babies. They were giving them away for free last year so you might be able to get one. They have a mattress in them

PippilottaLongstocking · 07/10/2018 09:58

I co-slept with both of mine from birth, if you read up on safe co-sleeping it can be very easy and very safe

GiraffeObsessedBaby · 07/10/2018 10:01

We were the same so we literally pushed our bed up to the far wall. Moved bedside tables to nursery (only other bedroom) and squeezed crib and the cot eventually in. We literally had room to open the door, climb on the bed and for the dogs to squeeze through onto the other side of the cot. Thought it would be a nightmare but actually we managed fine and glad we did it that way.

We also did use our pram carry cot instead of a Moses basket downstairs until he outgrew it - we have the silver cross pioneer and it's designed so that it can be used as a bed too.

Good luck!

guiltynetter · 07/10/2018 10:01

moses baskets aren’t that expensive at all. mine was £12 brand new in the tesco baby event and the stand £5 second hand. my DD stayed in it til she was nearly 7 months and she wasn’t tiny! 8lb 3 born.

Yogagirl123 · 07/10/2018 10:02

Try not to stress about it OP, as this is I experienced

DS1 brought a new Moses basket, he never spent a night or day in it, he would only sleep with me.

DS2 didn’t bother with the Moses basket, and brought a swinging crib instead, he didn’t sleep in that either, had most of his (very short) sleep in his pram.

TheLandsWhereTheJumbliesLive · 07/10/2018 10:02

I've co slept from birth. If you aren't comfortable with that then I'd use a Moses basket until 3/4 months, at which point co sleeping is no longer a SIDS risk factor, provided you are breastfeeding and neither you or your partner smoke.

StarfishSandwich · 07/10/2018 10:29

I have co-slept with our LO since birth. His massive co-sleeping cot is just a fancy bedrail at this stage. If you aren’t comfortable with co-sleeping, I’d echo others and suggest a secondhand Moses basket with new mattress.

SoyDora · 07/10/2018 10:47

My 50th centile baby was in her Moses basket until 7 months! Only moved her as she was crawling. She liked the coziness of it.

TokenGinger · 07/10/2018 11:26

We just got a brand new Moses basket with stand for £30 from Aldi in the baby event.

BlueBug45 · 07/10/2018 12:25

I have a borrowed moses basket with new mattress and a baby box - paid delivery for it. The baby box is actually longer than the Moses basket so will probably last longer but neither should be used when the baby can sit up.

I would suggest ask around friends, family and acquaintances to borrow baby stuff as someone is likely to have a moses basket they can lend to you. Otherwise as a PP said get a free baby box by doing the very easy course on baby box university.

Be aware lots of babies refuse to sleep alone at night in either of them or alone at all for a year (or more) so research safe co-sleeping anyway.

Buy a second hand Moses basket and get a new mattress for it.

If a Moses basket fits then a small crib should. Or a bed nest?
