Cvs question

Because of my age (44) does that mean I'll automatically be high risk anyway and need a cvs / NIPT
Or could my NT and bloods show low risk ?
Silly question but I'm a bit confused

Your age will be used as part of the calculation to work out your risk, along with your blood test levels and the nuchal measurement. Your age is only one factor they take into account. I think you’d only be offered further testing if you came back as high risk. You could always pay for the NIPT yourself if you were worried though.

You can do a panorama test from 9 weeks they are expensive though £500 where I am or Harmony through the hospital for £375 although they said if NT & bloods came back as high risk the NHS would pay for Harmony around 14 weeks.

I think it’s if you come back as a risk under 1:150 you will be asked if you want further testing. Based on your NT measurement, age and blood results. We were given 1:85 and offered harmony blood test (no charge) or CVS, though CVS was what they advised as it gives a definitive answers and screens for more than just the three most common.

Do you mind me asking what you did @le42 ? I worry about being offered a CVS because of the miscarriage risk but the harmony is just a blood test.

Hi, not at all. We opted for CVS... I needed a yes or no answer, I didn’t want another probability reading.

Our NT measurement was 4.7mm - very worrying.

In the end, It all came back clear and it was such a relief. I found the CVS okay, procedure itself was quick... had a sore stomach the next day (like I’d done lots of sit-ups) I made myself lie in bed and do very little.

I think you could have the harmony test and if it came back high probability you could have CVS to get a definitive answer.

It’s such a personal decision.... go with your gut.

@Waggily @SheRaTheAllPowerful @le42 thank you everyone for your help it has made things clearer, I'm crossing my fingers that I'm offered harmony / panorama where I live . If not I'm going to have to dig deep as I don't want to opt straight for the amniocentesis
