Planned Csection at UCLH - Anyone Paid for a Room?

Hi, I can’t find the thread now but a few months ago I came across a thread where someone said they were able to book a side room at the UCLH?

I’m a high risk pregnancy and I am having a planned section in November. Would you recommend booking in advance? Would they just give it at the time? Anyone know how much it is roughly/worth it?

Tia x

Not 100% sure BUT.....having been stuck at UCLH for the last 12 days antenatally and been moved 4 times around recovery, postnatal and antental wards, i would bloody recommend a private room.
Ive been tearing my hair out!!!!
From partners/visitors abusing the "patient" facilities to - other peoples visitors encroaching on my personal space id most definitely do what i could to get a private bed lol.
Im not a grumpy old goat i promise lol

I tried to get a side room after CS and while going thru breastfeeding hell in a ward with 7 other mums (me in floods of tears and no privacy)... not a hope, all reserved for mums experiencing much worse postnatal trauma than me - this wasn't UCHL but another busy London hospital. Good luck - I really hope you get a room, I'm still not right after my experience - but I totally accept that there were new mums in a far worse state than me and there was no side space available.

As you are high risk I would definitely look into prebooking the side room if the hospital allows it. In my dream mat ward, every woman would have a private room or space...

I had an elcs at uclh in 2014. Private room deffo worth it - the postnatal ward was hellish. We didn’t manage to get one despite pushing and pushing. You couldnt book them in advance but keep trying and you might get lucky!

Defnot oh no sounds like a terrible experience. I really hope your home soon to your own bed with some peace and quiet Flowers

I’ve read they used to do Size rooms for £150 a night and now they’ve got rid of those and try and sell you the Private rooms which they have for private patients for a whooping £850 a night Shock absolutely ridiculous!

Will speak to my midwife when I see her next week. I gave birth in Whittington hospital last time and they put me on the ward & I didn’t get any sleep with Lo up with all the crying babies... asked them for a quiet room & they gave us a side room for the duration of our stay (5days)

Thank you for your replies xx

Plinky if you don’t mind me asking, how much was the private room in 2014?

I'd imagine private rooms would be very expensive. Otherwise, the majority would want a private room and there wouldn't be enough rooms.

I think it was about £300/night then.
