Cyclizine

Was prescribed cyclizine today for severe morning sickness. Bit worried about hearing reports of dizziness and drowsiness. How extreme have people found it? I'll be with toddler DS tomorrow myself and wondering if I should wait until tomorrow night when DH will be around for the rest of the weekend?

The first few days were the worst but after that I got used to it and it settled down. Dry mouth and tiredness was my worst symptoms x

The first few days I was so tired but after a few days that eased off. Better than vomiting. It didn't work for me though so I ended up on a combination of drugs to get me through. I had a 2 year old at the time, what we did was make a camp in our bedroom, tv with Netflix, snacks etc and told my dd we were having a special day. It meant I could dose while she watched tv etc.

I didn’t notice either but being sick all day creates extreme drowsiness in my book anyway! For teeny tablets I found them bloody hard to swallow and they didn’t work. They did work like magic for the first 5 days the first time I took them then never again...

I was definitely drowsy with it, but found that taking it in the evening worked best. I had a toddler too, but being a bit sleepy was so much better than throwing up every 5 minutes! And it meant I was able to deal with getting his food and changing nappies etc without being violently ill every time Grin

I've been on them for weeks now. Initial drowsiness soon settled but I still get horribly dizzy to the point I can't stand or sit upright for more than 15 mins at a time. I think that is down to the underlying hyperemesis rather than the tablets though, and even if not it is better than being in hospital on a drip.
I think with all these things you have to look at how much the sickness is already stopping you functioning. Plus you won't know until you try it.

I couldn't get on with the drowsiness. I commute to work and it meant I wasn't safe to take them before or during work.
I then was too drowsy to look after my 2 year old and had to call dp back on the first day.
I took them for 5 days then tried prochlorperazine which made me less drowsy but didn't stop the vomiting. Now I'm on metaclopromide and it's brilliant. I feel almost like my self. They are 8 hourly though and wear off after 6 ish hours but they have significantly improved things for me.

Thanks for their replies.

Woke at 6am to be sick so decided can't cope with this any longer and took a tablet. Managed a couple of hours sleep and woke to be sick again. It does say onset of action 30 mins, peak effects in 1-2 hours so I'm hoping it just needs an accumulative effect on me...

This is grim.

If it doesn't work in a few days go back to your GP. There are plenty of different medications. Many swear by ondansatron but that stopped working after a week for me. I ended up on phenegan which is similar to cyclyzine , that really did knock me out though but by that stage I just wanted to stop being sick for longer than 12 hrs.

8DaysAWeek · 05/10/2018 19:32

GP was really good about making sure I call her back if it doesn't work and we can work our way through all the options.

Funny how everyone responds differently!

Everyone really does respond differently! I was super sleepy on promethazine, ondansetron was magic stuff.
